UGA or UF? I am applying to both of these schools so I know stuff about their academics but not really about their student life (tours don't really tell you too much about that). If you went to either of these schools could you tell me a little about your experiences, pros and cons?

I got my Masters at UGA. It was a great place to go to grad school. Here are my experiences...
Pros
1. It was REALLY affordable. I was paying in state tuition and it was literally 1/18 of my undergrad tuition at Vanderbilt. Athens in general is a really cheap place to live.
2. There's ALWAYS something going on in Athens. From a great music scene, cute resturants, lots of fun bars, college sporting events... always something going on. But keep in mind that since it's a college town, it's not too cosmopolitan.
3. Only 1 hour from Atlanta.
4. I had the most fabulous apartment ever. Where I lived was an old hotel from the beginning of the century... it's where my great grandparents went on their wedding night. It was gutted and turned into 35 apartments. The building is so neat and pretty... there's still a ballroom used for functions, the apartments have SO much character and are anti-cookie cutter. Plus, it's located downtown and you can walk to all the bars and are only 2 blocks from old campus.
5. I really liked the program I was in.
Cons
1. This was my first time at a big public school. It was totally different than what I was used to...as cliche as it it, I felt like just a number lots of times.
2. It seems like some of the time the university is more concerned with athletics than academics.
3. Shopping was lacking. I went to Atlanta all the time to see my parents and visit my friends.
4. The campus isn't pretty or very well planned.
So are you applying to undergrad or graduate school? My responses are pretty generic but I can answer any other questions you have. I didn't go to undergrad there but I know a lot about that too because my ex boyfriend and several friends went there.
