question for people who make jewelry

I've just started making beaded necklace and someone told me today that there is a kind of mold thing that you can buy that has a groove/indentation in it - in a U shape.  You can line up the beads in the U shape and they don't roll all over the table - so that you can design your piece before stringing it on the wire.  Does anyone know what this thing is called or where I can find one online??  I've searched the net to no avail.  Thanks!

They have them at Michael's - I can't remember what it's called, but it's pretty cheap. It should be in the same section as all their beading/stringing supplies. They should have them at any big craft store.

Thanks.  I couldn't find it on their website (looked under tools, storage, etc.).  I'm going to go look at acmoore.com now.

Thanks, greendiamond!  Just saw your post.  I order from Amazon all the time so I'm going to put one in my cart right now.  Appreciate it!

My friend has it, she got me into this beading thing, I looked for it too, never found it, but if you find it - very convinient, it also holds it in a way that you can see symmetrical lines, place accents - just comfortable for assembly. Try it in the stores that sell beading tools.

Thanks, Yana! I'm going to order one of the ones from Amazon. Have you made a lot of pieces yet? This is addictive! I'm always looking for inspiration - J Crew is my main source right now. I also like kepdesigns.com. What do you use for inspiration??

Hi!
It's addictive, but with the kids around I stopped, also started studying ( went to grad school), so no time. Also, I prefer to buy beads at the jewelry show - it only arrives once in 3 months here, but it's the best ( international gem and jewerly show - google this name - it has the best prices and everything you need for it, besides some real already made pieces, like antiques and modern jewerly, but in LA - it's a drag for me, with 2 kids, never have time or money....)
HOwever, on the inspiration topic: I'd watch tv - interesting ideas on women on tv mostly, whethere actresses, tv personalities, in magazines it looks different. Also, made a few according to my needs & taste. The funny or sad thing is that I almost don't wear what i made...although it's all natural stones ( turqouise, fresh water pearls, coral, amber, agat, etc...)sometimes....Anyhow, it's some sort of occupational therapy with the benefit:))) so, enjoy!

Thanks, Yana! I can understand how it would be hard to do this with kids. I have to wait until after they've gone to sleep or they go nuts over all the beads! I will google the international gem and jewelry show - sounds promising! Thanks again.
