To all of the other Texas girls on the board-be safe during hurricane Rita. I am going to Austin Thursday morning, just in case. I hope all of you that live in the path of the storm are in a safe place and everything is ok. I will chat with all of you when I get home!!
I'm soo worried. As most of you girls know I live in Houston. I'm not sure if we are going to evacuate. I'm praying so hard that the hurrican doesn't do too much damage to Houston. I hope all you girls are safe.
Eeeek! I know, Im so in denial. My mom called my cell phone 3 times while i was in class this morning freaking out. She wants to drive to Santa Fe, NM (where my sis lives). Im hoping that it weakens or something..........
I'm in Austin so I'm not worried about me but my 'rents live in Houston so I hope they clear out. They probably won't (the live on the NW side) so on that note, I hope it's not as bad as it looks like it might be.
At work, they're closing the Houston office Friday so if that's any indication, I'd suggest you Houstonians take a long weekend trip to Austin or Dallas or something.
They closed down the university today at noon. It won't open till Monday. I don't know what my parent's plans are.. so I'm going to have to wait until they get out of work.
Yeah, they decided to close school at noon today (after my 9am class). Our office is closing is closing tomorrow and Friday. My biggest worry is my dad b/c he's so damn stubborn. He doesnt think anything is going to happen to the house (flooding/winds-wise) so he wants to stay here.
I WISH i could go hang out in Austin, maybe they'll waive the whole needing tickets to get in at ACL?! I heard hotel rooms are sold out there & in Dallas. My friend's parents are headed to San Antonio. I guess I'll wait until tomorrow afternoon to decide what we're going to do.

I have a friend who has 2 extra ACL tickets and he'll sell them for cost (which I think is not too bad since he got them early). If you wanna make it happen, let me know!
i'm downtown houston, with a second floor apartment, so i'm not too worried about damage, but we're leaving anyway. the question is: what to pack? if you had to leave everything in a few hours- what would you take? is it ridiculous that a good chunk of my luggage is filled with shoes? oh well, gotta know where your prioities lay...
take care all

the latest news I saw says that this is currently one of the strongest storms on record, although it might weaken again before it hits land. The article I read said that winds that strong can actually cause buildings to collapse--never mind the roof blowing off, the wind could actually push entire buildings over. So please everyone be careful and get out of town even if you think you don't need to! Besides, even if the building you are in is OK, you won't have water or electricity for days at the very least, and that gets old FAST.
Just to let you girls know my family and I are leaving Houston tomorrow. We're going to good old Mexico. I won't be in touch for a while, but when I do get the chance i'll let you girls know..
it's going to take a loooooooooooooooong time to get out of Houston. THe lines are sooo long. Rush hour is going to last 36 hrs! ahh, gasoline lines are soo long. Stores have NO water. Soo crazy.
I'm in Chicago on business right now and I'm scheduled to fly back Saturday morning. Needless to say, I have no idea if that is gonna happen and I'm counting on being stuck in Chicago for a while. But in the mean time, my parents are in Houston and refuse to evacuate. They're being stubborn. I'm kinda freaking out cause I'm not home with them and I don't really know what's going on and I don't know what to expect when I finally get to go home.
Here's wishing all of you in Texas the best of luck. I pray this storm weakens or veers off course.
After 7 hours we decided to turn back around. So I am now home.. The freeway is literally a parking lot. Watch this, in 3 hours we advance 1 mile! My brother was already on half a tank and there was no gasoline. It's all gone!! This is sooo crazy. I'm sure we'll be ok. I'm really North of Houston. I just can't bear with the fact that we are not going to have electricity when Hurrican Rita hits. I hope everything turns out fine. I'll keep you guys updated if I can.
Ditto. A lot of people I know have tried leaving the city only to find themselves stuck on the highways and freeways with no gas stations available. So everyone I know who hasn't already made it out have turned back around and are riding out the storm at home. This is insane. There's not even a way out.
Claudia, TexasGal, Jess and others staying in Houston, PLEASE let us know when you can that everything is okay. I'm sure it will be, but we'll be worried. Good luck.
I live in San Antonio so dont have much to worry about really! But all you girls in Houston Please be very careful and let us know how things are when you can! I am praying for ya'll and everyone else!!!
we did leave after all. friday morning we took off since we noticed all roads were clear. my family and i are at mexico right now. we are safe. thank goodness. we made 5.5 hours. on the way to mexico we counted more than 1000 cars stranded and thats not including the ones stuck in gas stations. i dont know when we will be returning. ill update when i can.
thanks girls for yalls concern. i really appreciate.
the message is all lowercase, because i dont understand the keyboard here in mexico. its different. lol
