I haven't made an appointment yet, but I'm going to be coming to Chicago in the next few weeks to get my hair done.
I have no idea whether it would be easier to drive or take the Amtrak in, and then take public transportation from Union station to the salon. The salon (Maxine) is in the gold coast on Rush St.
The amtrak website says it takes 1.5 hrs to get from MKE to Chicago, and driving directions say it would take close to 2 hours. If I drive, then I'll make the appointment for a Saturday, but if I take the train down than I could do it any day of the week.
My concern is I have no idea how to take public transportation. I've only taken the bus once in my life by myself, and I was 18 and it was a nerve-wracking experience.
According to Yelp, they have $12 valet as well.
I need some advice - train or drive? Thanks!

If it were me, I'd drive and park. You can usually find street parking if you're patient enough, and you can also park in Bloomingdales garage and have it validated and it's $6. If you take Amtrak into Union Station, you'll then either have to walk to get on the red line subway and take that to the salon, or you'll have to cab it to the salon, because Union Station is not at all w/in walking distance of the Gold Coast. I say drive!
I second the drive and park. I take public transport all over the place here, but in this case I'd suggest that you drive. Public transport can be frustrating and who needs that in an unfamiliar city?
