Blizzard Photos in Chicago

This is what things looked like at my place on Wedsday.  I'm just glad it was sort of sunny and in the 20's as we dug ourselves out.  It's 8 degree today.

That groundhog had better not be messing with us.

This was taken from my front door.  The storm had blown the snow into a huge pile right up against the door.  Then froze it there.  The door is actually open here.

This is the front walk.  And represents about an hour of work for me.

My backyard.  I'm thinking of installing a ski lift or toboggan slide.

My car.  I may see it again sometime in April.

yikes! In Cincinnati we pretty much missed it all. We had terrible ice and freezing rain for about a day (several of our trees lost substantial chunks) but the temps rose and it left almost as quickly as it came. I don't know what I'd do with all that snow! Looks like you'd have to plow a path just to take a dog out!

We got about 7". I am totally jealous of all that snow. With all the build-up to the big blizzard, 7" is a let down. I was afraid that would happen.

it was a huge let down! my husband got a snow day and I really enjoy being snowed in.  however, my work continued on and started with a 2 hour conference call... was a busy working at home day for me since all my colleagues decided to work from home too -- emails were a flyin'.

GD-You are more than welcome to my extra 13". I'm generous like that.

I came home yesterday from work and found that my car and my partents' car were plowed in. So I spent 40 minutes shoveling us out. Woke up this AM to find that at some point last night/early this AM I got plowed in AGAIN! I am so sick of shoveling. Half my body is sore and I spent last night with a hot water bottle slung over my right shoulder (and apparently will again tonight after I dig us out once more.) At a certain point it just gets ridiculous. There's nowhere to put the snow I shovel anymore.

so sorry you have had to shovel so much, Boots! (it is great exercise though...) and as much as I strive to embrace whatever mother nature gives us, I'm really beginning to yearn for some warmer temperatures. When a high of 30 becomes a heat wave, I start to get cabin fever. Housebreaking the dogs has been a pain too. I'm not overly enthusiastic to step outside and freeze while I wait for them to to their business. Plus the dogs have cabin fever big-time. I'm hoping it will be warm enough to get them out for a walk today (high 20's will do.) This weekend we are supposed to be 30 or so, so I expect to be able to get them out for a couple of more walks.

Wow, that's crazy! Love the first pic of the view from you doorway! I have to admit I am a bit jealous over here in sunny (but cold) Istanbul (although NOT jealous of all the digging out you have to do). It looks so pretty. Stay warm. Is it starting to melt or have you been getting more?

Got plowed in again yesterday. I'm beginning to develop a nice bit of toning. Unfortunately, it's only on one side of my body. But if I just stand sideways, I'll look pretty buff, right?

Eh, I choose to live in Chicago so this is what I have to deal with. I had fun watching the kids next door play in the snow (OK, I helped build their snowfort too....) It was good to remember to have some fun with what's thrown at you. I'm still more than ready for Spring though.

Apparently there is a photo floating around on FB of a bunch of cars on Lakeshore drive (I think, but could have been Michigan Ave.) all abandoned and snow-covered. Have you seen that one? Can't believe all the snow in so many parts of the country!

Oh yeah.  That was a major mess.  And a lot of those people were stuck there for hours and hours (we're talking 10 hours.)  A bus jack-knifed on Lake Shore Drive and blocked lanes just as the storm hit (and there was already a rush of traffic from people trying to leave work early and get home before it got bad.)  They had to send emergency buses in to get people out and then spent 2 days towing the cars out after plowing around them.  I was glad not to be anywhere around there.
