Resolution Check In

Happy February!

I thought I'd post a resolution check in so we can assess how we are doing with our general resolution and our style resolutions.

I should have re-read my style resolutions before posting this. Oops.

Any way, how is everyone doing?

For some reason the resolution thread wasn't working for me...I hope this link works for anyone else who is having that problem:

http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?aBID=44784&p=3&topicID=40172552

My resolution was to exercise more: super fail on that one. I can't even pretend I'm doing well with that. It's been so cold and snowy that I hate leaving the house if I don't have to, so that is always my excuse. My boyfriend on the other hand has been jumping up at 6am to go to the gym every morning while I just keep sleeping like a big slacker. BUT a resolution I did not put on ST was that I want to eat 2 apples and drink 2 glasses of milk every day. I'm doing pretty well with that (of course, that one's pretty easy to keep!)

My style resolutions:

- quality over quantity: I haven't really been shopping much so I haven't had much of a chance to exercise this resolution but what I have bought has been better than I usually purchase.

-stop buying things that don't fit my lifestyle: again, I haven't really been shopping much so I haven't had much opportunity to succeed or fail. But the things I have bought, I have had specific situations in mind for the outfits.

-go to a stylist who "gets" wavy hair - This Friday, in fact, I have a hair appointment with someone who got rave reviews on naturallycurly.com, so hopefully she will know more about working with not-straight hair than the stylist I've been going to.

Well, I will say that if you have to go look at the link for style resolutions, you're probably not doing great. And, this applies to me.

I have only bought 1 item, and it did fit my criteria for being better fitting and filling a need in my wardrobe. However, the accessorizing with scarves and belts hasn't been great. The first week or two was, but i've been in jeans mode lately, even for work.

As for my resolution outside of style, it was to do away with aspartame. And I have. I havn't had any since the new year. And, I don't miss diet coke too terribly, which was nearly my only source of the stuff. So, yay me.

I also have been paying better attention to treating my KP, and have done well. I see a derm next week to see what else I can do.My other goal for the month was to make a big payment on a credit card, and I wrote that check today. So, all in all I haven't been too bad, but there is room for improvement.

Now that I'm done with aspartame, I'm going vegan for the month to kick my cheese habit. I may or may not continue, but know I need to remind myself it is not a dietary staple. I'd ideally like to be vegan as the rule and only cheat occasionally when it isn't convenient to be vegan (so mostly at meals with people who struggle with vegetarianism and just can't wrap their brains around veganism).

Would you mind sharing if your derm shares any great tips? I use salicylic acid body wash and lactic acid lotion (usually I choose one to use each day, not both) but it hasn't totally "cured" my KP

Kelly- I noticed in another thread that your hair stylist was using a razor cut on you.  I have wavey hair and razor cuts are hell on my shape.  They create awful frizz and ruin the longer layers I like (to weight the waves down a bit so my hair isn't so poofy.)  I'd ask your new person about them before you let her cut your hair.

My lifestyle resolution was to do more things I want to actually do instead of just fantasying about them. I've made the same resolution for the last 3 years and am happy to accomplish 3 or 4 activities. It's too early into the year to really worry about that. Although I am trying to get some people together to check out a new place for Chicago's restaurant week (local places have prix-fixe menus so it's easier on the pocketbook to eat at an expensive place.) But it's really going to depend on my schedule if I can make it happen.

Style resolution was to find some nice black pumps. Found a pair of Mee Too black heels that were almost perfect. They still slipped off my heels when I walked (and going down a size cramped my toes.) I'm going to check them out again but bring a pair of heel grips with me and see f they solve the problem.

I also resolved to dress more for myself and how I perceive the occasion as opposed to how others dress for the occasion. I haven't had anything really come up yet to test it. I have worn a few dresses and legging outfits to work so I suppose it counts a bit (very casual office so normally wear jeans every day.)

Boots, I think I am going to steal this resolution! I have a group of friends that I hang out with a lot, and the women usually wear tees and sweatshirts and gym shoes. I haven't worn that around them, but have tried to go a bit more casual for their comfort. But, it's just not my style. I need to stop feeling weird about dressing how I like.

Thanks! I'm definitely going to talk to her before she starts cutting, because between the razor cutting and my goofy layers, my last stylist really wrecked my waves! I didn't even know until AFTER that cut that razors are bad for my texture. Eeep!

I saw the new stylist's picture on the salon's website and she has curly hair herself so I think she will not only understand curly/wavy hair "in theory" but has personal experience too. Crossing my fingers!

I made three style resolutions and I'm doing well:

- Exfoliate. Remember to use the same good skincare on my neck/chest. Wash my face in the shower *after* I shampoo/condition. [check]

Leave my eyebrows alone until they fill in better. I look younger with heavier brows. At my age the thin thing is making me look older. [check - I haven't totally left them alone but they are I think looking okay]

Clear polish on my nails - what a difference this small thing makes. [check]

I didn't post my other ones for some reason but they aren't going well...

Yoga - so overdue.

Similarly, have not made strides to take more time for myself. An hour a week is not going to make the world stop spinning, but it may make my head stop spinning.

Get new clients that are better to work with and better for the bottom line. I have made progress here. And regressed a bit by taking on the beagle rescue project pro-bono, but it's an issue I am so passionate about I don't mind how time consuming it is, and our results have been great.

Stay on top of the gardener so that he takes care of the things that are bugging me. I actually haven't seen him in weeks because I haven't been around on the day he shows up. So, fail.
