The call just went out for the need for interpreters, especially Spanish, French & Vietnamese speaking ones.
I'm rearranging my work schedule to try to get out there. I know several interpreters with whom I work here in Seattle left last night to head out there.
If you have any language skills (I heard somewhere they were also look for ASL interpreters), I know they could probably use the help.

Foreigh language interpreters are needed at the shelters, especially French, Cajun French and Spanish. Call the NW LA Red Cross at 318-865-9545.
and for the evacuees in Houston:
Quote:
We're in desperate need of people who can speak Vietnamese & are tech-savvy so we can help them apply for food stamps and FEMA emergency funds.
We're expecting a shipment of food & water from the Red Cross any day now. So, we'll need some folks to unload and distribute those.
I just pm'd you. Not trying to scare you but wanted you to know what they aren't saying on the news. Just be careful when you go and if you need something let me know. I'm in Houston and my family is in BR I can give you some numbers in case you need them. Just pm me
