Hi everone - Sorry for the delay but I finally have time to post an update. The mtg on thurs went as well as it could. it was productive as we learned about even more concerns that we were not aware of. she has regressed in certain areas, mainly sociability - as she now plays by herself every day on the playground. they gave us some examples of some of their statements, but blamed most of the mistakes on the form. Though the examples were somewhat lame, I can see where they are concerned and def. think they're worth looking into. they encouraged me to observe a pe class, which i will do next week.
the learning specialist was sympathetic and apologized for giving us the form and basically putting us through hell. the teacher did not apologize - she was very professional and sort of stoic. it would take me an hour to write all that was said, so i'll just say that i feel a bit better as the tension seems to have subsided some but a bit more concerned about some of this stuff as new examples were given.
Elle - you may be right about the cultural differences. my teacher friend tells me that the things they are mentioning are developmental delays, so i have been researching that. almost everything points to autism. btw when i asked the teachers if they thought she had autism the learning specialist said no (but now that i think about it the teacher didn't say anything). we are having a full neuro-psych evaluation at hopkins i am told, so not just the neuro testing. i'm assuming that that type of testing will pick up on developmental delays, right? Thanks for your response.
Hugs to you and Lucy. I have no real advice to add other than what you've already been given. I hope that things go well for you at Johns Hopkins. Lucy will be in very good hands there.
I'm glad that you at least have a better understanding about things. Since you are basically stuck with that school until next year, it's good that the lines of communication is flowing better.
Thanks Kenzie and Boots. Yes, I do have a better understanding about things - although new symptoms and issues come up almost every day. Taking things one day at a time though - and hoping that this trip to Hopkins will give us some answers.
