I need opinions on my pants
Permalink Closed

I just got through making this pair of pants and I am not sure about the fit?  What do you ladies think of how they fit.  I have gotten all kinds of opinions from the sewing boards I visit, but those tend to me very technical.  I am just wondering, from a fashion standpoint, what do you think about the fit?  Please be brutally honest--I can take it because I don't want to be a fashion victim.  Thanks.

I think they fit you well, but then again, I'm no fit expert. perhaps they're a little baggy in the crotchital region... sailor pants aren't supposed to be tight anyway.

I always disliked pattern illustrations. they never look like what the garment will look like on a human.

what do you think? do you think they look good?

I can't believe you made those!! They look like they might be a little baggy in the upper thigh (when you look at the shot from the back) but otherwise totally impressive!

I agree. But, that wouldn't keep me from wearing them. Although, since you were able to sew those (so impressed!) you probably know hoe to fix the baggyness.

That's what I was thinking too.  Plus, they might look completely fine when you are moving.

HI! I'm a fashion designer, so I'll tell you honestly as you request & as I see it:)
1. front is stylish & current & I personally like it.
2. back is too 80-s, I personally think it clashes with the design of the front & is unflattering.
3. The top you're wearing in this pic isn't well cooridnated with the pants, sorry.
4. fit - the length is fine. Now, along the leg - see the pic, it looks better fitted on the drawing: the width of the pants leg should be tight on your leg until about 2" below your knee & then go into flare.  On your pic - they're too loose in side seams from your low hip. But that has nothing to do with fashion - it's just good fit. That you can re-do in alterations.

I am impressed! That doesn't look like an easy pattern!

That being said, I think you are right to question the fit. My opinions:

1. They need to be tighter through the hips, both front and back.
2. I don't personally like the lace up the back, so I may be biased in also thinking that it's unflattering to your bum, but I do think that. If it's possible to get rid of it, I would.
3. I agree with Yana that tighter through the lower him, bum, and thigh would be more stylish.

I am not a seamstress at all, so take this all with a grain of salt. smile

I'm impressed too. I think the fit is good but could be improved by taking in a little on the side seams. When I think of sailor style, the shape I think of is fitted through the thigh and almost bell-bottom. I'm not a fan of the back detail either.

WOW bloomie, GOOD JOB! I love them.

I also think they QUITE LOOSE in the va-jay-jay area. I'd probably get rid of the back part, b/c I'm LOVING the front SO MUCH! Great length! Again, GOOD JOB, wish I had your sewing skills. :)
