We are in the process of looking for a new house so we went to an open house on Saturday afternoon. From the outside the house looked really nice and was in a good neighborhood. Also, it wasn't cheap.
But when we walked in...Oh. MY. GOD! I have never seen a place so gross. It was filthy. The people had aready moved out so the house was empty. They hadn't done anything to make it sellable. I didn't even want to touch anything- the lino in the kitchen was crusted with black crud, there was black marks and smears all along the walls, the carpets were frightful and there were punch marks in some of the doors and walls. The worst part was that the realtor hosting the open house (not our realtor) saw nothing wrong with showing such a disguting place, in fact she said "if you think this place is dirty, you shouldn't come over to my house."
I am dumbfounded. Do people really live like this? I am not the neatest person in the world but I consider myself a very clean person. It was just unreal. I still have the willies thinking about it.
Yea, we have been going through the "house hunting" experience too. There have been some aweful places that we have seen and I agree that I have NO idea why people are showing their homes like this let alone living that way! We went to this one home that looked really beautiful on the outside, but on the inside was a different story! And the worst part was that the sellers showed it to us, not their realtor, and they were so proud of it. It was a DUMP!! The floors were so unlevel I literally felt like I might fall down. The basement was all low celiengs and mildewed and smelled like dog pee. When we all went out on the second story "deck" I was afraid for my life! And they were like "yea, isn't it nice"? NO, IT'S SCARY!!! The parents were with me and hubby looking at it and we all pretended like we had to rush to another showing and had a laugh about it later. You never know what you're going to get!
It's so funny because there are both exrtremes, when my mom had her house listed for sale, she would even clean out the inside of the washing machine before a showing, hehe! I was like, mom I don't think anyone will be looking in there
Eewww! Some people aren't too bright when selling their homes. Does anybody watch Sell This House? Common sense is to clean up and paint and put in new floors if necessary if you want top dollar for your house. A little investing, say even just $1000 can increase the value of what your homes sells for $20,000 more!
Gross! We visited a place like that. The house was 10 years old and I don't think it had ever really been cleaned. I thought they had put that film on their windows to darken them, but when I went to touch it, it was dust! I told my realtor "NO" right after that.
It still sold in two days, though.

So we looked at a house yesterday. Not bad, but some weirdness...
-the people living (2 late 20's-early 30's guys and a girl) there were sitting in the dining room eating dinner when we arrived. The realtor said "there just running behind" but as we starting looking at the house it became apparent they didn't have plans to leave that evening. They were just continuing with their usual business. A little weird for me.
-But here's when it gets good...We went to look at the bathroom and beside the john is a stack of PORNO MAGS! If you are trying to sell your house probably best to HIDE THE PORN AWAY!
Geez, you would think people would tidy up and at least be away while you are looking with the realtor. Tomorrow I get to look at the contemporary house of my dreams. Luckily it is vacant. Here is what I forgot to say about people being disgustingly dirty. In my neighborhood there is this "druggy" house. Pretty obvious by the high volume traffic stopping by the house for a few minutes then leaving. Plus they are shady people. Well, about two weeks ago all this garbage just appeared on their front lawn. It looked like a landfill! I am assumming all that crap was inside their house waist high. They had about three lawn mowers out there, and can't even use one of them to trim the lawn! This week I see a huge metal garbage container (like the ones used at apartments) overtaking the rest of their lawn. I heard they had complaints, so the county had waste management dump one of those containers and are forcing them to clean it up. All that garbage is still sitting out there. What an eyesore! Glad I'm moving soon!
