it's aluminum and the sunlight shines though the numbers on to the back plate. You tell the time by looking at the number on the line of the back plate. I think it's really cool, and it's actually made by Whitehall Products in Whitehall, Michigan http://www.whitehallproducts.com/index.php/products/C15

I have the column that goes with it as a base also, but I think the column will take you over your price limit. I wonder what it would look like on a wood post?

Get the sundial, and look for something at a secondhand shop or flea market that can be repurposed as a pedestal. Might work.

I was able to find some whitehall sundials for a good price. I so much prefer aluminum since it won't rust. The column and dial come to $66.98

I love this one. I'd be willing to spend more than I had hoped to stare at it! I bet it would look great on this:

But I also like the idea of repurposing an item from a second hand shop (Treasure Mart, here I come).
