Do you girls have one thing that you say all the time, like with your friends or SOs? Like a catch phrase or something cheesy that you just think is hilarious?
One of my best friends says this a lot and now my entire group has adopted it (when appropriate)..
Instead of saying "you know what I mean?" in conversation, we say "are you picking up what I am putting down?"
I just think it is too funny and it makes me smile just thinking about it.
I picked this one up from an older lady I used to work with. Whenever she loved something, especially fancy food, she said:
"Oh this is to die forrrrrrrr" with a very arrogant purr, now all my co-workers are picking it up too.
Another phrase I tend to say is when my co-workers complement me on something I'm wearing, I say:
"Orange, it's the new red" or "Plum, it's the new burgundy" or "brown, its the new black" or "turquoise, its the new navy", now whenever they receive a complement, they ask, "What color is this replacing?"
I always say "you too" or "thanks" in the wrong context (ex: Happy birthday, the otherjess! me: Thanks, you too!) I guess it's just a habit but I always feel like a ditz afterwards.

*When we list things in a sequence, my college friends and I say... "A Number 1, he wasn't that cute, B Number 2, he wasn't tall enough, C Number 3, he was annoying..."
*My best friend from high school and I use the word lark to mean really drunk. It's derived from the old fashion saying, "I'm happy as a lark." However one night I said, "I'm drunk as a lark." Well it stuck and now we use the word as an adjective or verb (Are you larking?). It's one of those things that we thought was HILAROUS in 10th grade and to this day we are still amused by it.
*My mom's most overused word is 'otherwise.' Imagine it in drawn out Southern drawl... Pronounced UUtha-wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiize. My dad and I use it to mock her because we are mean.

OMG, this totally reminded me of when I was in college and performed in musicals. Warning...this is somewhat inappropriate, but hilarious (to me, anyway) nonetheless...
Our director's last name, much to our amusement, was Barefield. Seriously, he was like the nicest guy ever, but we just got a kick out of his name, for whatever reason. So, somehow, one of the guys (of course) made some kind of reference to um, yanking the chain (sorry so crass, don't know what else to say) and the director's last name. So, somehow (and I don't remember how) that snowballed into the term "Barefielding" to replace the yanking the chain phrase. We would say things like, 'he missed his cue, he must be barefielding in the back room" and the like. So, bad, I know. But we thought we were hysterical, when in reality we were just young and stupid, but it still makes me laugh just thinking about what a kick we all got out of it.
But anyway, now that I'm all grown up and mature-like (teehee), my phrases of choice are much more sophisticated. Whenever something is a distinct, usually quirky, personality trait of someone or it's something they always say, I attached 'ism' to the end of their name, like Jessica-ism or Justin-ism. To use it in a phrase, for example, 'Making us all use coasters when we're at her house is such a Jessica-ism.'
I also say 'fabulous' way too often. Lately, I've been saying 'fabu' instead of fabulous, mostly as a joke, mocking the term. I also have a tendency to say 'neato' much to the chagrin of my friends. And my friends and I like to call each other 'Biznatch.' It's a term of endearment, really.
I love to make up stupid names for the people I love. Haha its so dorky. I call my mom Mumford or Momsarelli, my brother (Nick) is Nixon and my bf has about 1000 silly names. Not to mention the dog and cat rarley ever get called by their real names, they are constantly Mouse, Monkey, Chubchub, Chublet, Scruffydog, Muffin, Muffy... I could go on forever.
I always say "ready, Spaghetti" when I'm ready to go or do something. I also when I leave I'm "off like a herd of turtles".
now, I've sufficiently embarrassed myself for today

Oh gosh, I do this, too. My bf has a million nicknames, mostly centering around the word Stinky (Stinkster, Stinkypants, ect). I hardly ever call my mom's dog by her name. It's either some variation of it or something like, Beastly, FluffnStuff, Fluffypants, Beasters, Piggybear, Stinkybear...there are so many more.
Don't be embarassed, BC, you're not alone in your nickname fun!
Right now I'm saying "This shit is bananas" for just about everything. (Gwen Stefani reference) And "Luuuucky" like Napoleon Dynamite.
I have one friend that I share a phrase with - whenever we are getting jealous of a girl who we think might be "after" the DH or BF we say "We don't know anything about her parents - they could be pirates!" in a cheesy british accent. (Emma reference)
And I say "You ... are ... an ... ASS!" ala the crazy character played by Michael Keaton in the movie version of Much Ado About Nothing. But usually about myself.

another variation on that theme: i like to say, "you smelling what i'm smoking?" or "i'm smelling what you're smoking." for some reason i think this is hilarious and, back in the day, it was very applicable to my daily life (read: hs/college)!
i'm sure i have a million others, but i'm blanking right now...
My sister and I always say, "It's pretty cool, I guess" in a Kip (Napoleon Dynamite) voice.Edited by halleybird at 16:55, 2005-08-03
Oh, this reminded me that I say that things are "pretty much the best thing ever" a lot too (also from ND). I also picked up the phrase "You're the best ever" from my sister's track coach. Usually when I say it I will imitate his manly voice too .

My sister and I have a few...we call people we don't like that do things that cut you off or something are "terds"! Then we also say" let's blow this popsicle stand" when it is time to go. My good friend has so many, you used to say "tears, hugs and kisses" all the time, and also in a really southern accent!

Oh my god. I think every other word out of my mouth is from ND.
My boyfriend and I go mountain biking a lot w/ friends and one friend's bike ....has shock and pegs- Lucky!
no, you are not the only one with the ND references... i say "Gosh!" like ND all the time!
other things i say waaaaaay to much are
"do you know what i mean??" after i say things to my mom or boyfriend to make sure they are grasping the concept of what i am saying... i say it after EVERYTHING and my BF makes fun of me all the time...
i use "tres" a lot... as in, "that shirt is tres cute!"
i also use fabulous a lot too... and fabu... and hot... i probably sound like paris hilton! yikes! i better find some new words!

I do this all the time! I don't think I've called my bf his real name for years! I do it with my cat all the time too!
As for Napoleon Dynamite, I think every word out of my mouth is a ND reference. My favorite are the tots references because I make them a lot for dinner so a reference always comes up. I also just bought a shirt that says "Are you gonna eat your" and then theres a picture of tots! I love it!
I say, "Are you buyin' what I'm selling" when I want to see if someone understands me.
Instead of fantastic I say that's "fandamtastic!"
I also say, "I'm heading out like a baby" (I got that from my brother in law)
Will I be banned if i admit to never having seen Napoleon Dynamite? I remember renting it, but i think i fell asleep or something.
I am terrible about saying "like" and "totally" - I must be a born again valley girl. I also say "you know what I mean" a lot, even when no one knows what I mean.
One of my friends says "sure" instead of yes & I have picked this up - such as "Do you go to the gym a lot?" "sure" - it seems so much more definative & like "of course I do" - i like it!
(how many like references is that?)

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who make up silly nicknames for pets I call my cats Bodedobobo, Stinkerella, Stumblina, Tenacious T, I also make up songs containing those nicknames and sing them on the top of my lungs to amuse myself.
Lately I keep saying what ev instead of whatever. I also have a tendency to address people as "Hey you" instead of actually using their names.
