sorry for being so spastic with posting right now.
ok, so while doing research for the "pr firm" that I am supposed to be interviewing with on Monday morning, I found out that it's a staffing agency and not an actual firm. Now I don't know if I should cancel my appointment or not. I also have a feeling that the postion might be temp-to-hire, which I am not interested in.
Normally I would not worry about it, take the morning off and go see what it's all about. BUT my boss is out today so I can't ask for Monday morning off and I think she's out Monday as well, so I can't call in sick. So I can risk sneaking out for an hour, which is what I was going to do originally since the interview is right down the street...but I don't know now that I'm not completely sold on it. Should I cancel my appointment? If yes, how should I do it without looking totally spastic (or should I even care, since I would be cancelling not rescheduling and would probably never have anything to do with them again?)
I think you should keep your options open and at least go to the interview. At the very least, you can use it as interview experience. The more interviews you go on, the better you will be at getting interviewed!
And if it is right down the street, just leave work for ~ an hour. Tell your boss you have an appt. and will need to step out for an hour or more.
i'd probably skip it, tbh. it sounds a little shady and not worth the trouble, but that's just my initial impression from reading your post. is there any add'l info. that makes it sound more desirable?
oh and i'd probably just call and say thank you for the opportunity but i'm not going to be able to make it to the interview. if they ask why, just say "scheduling conflict." (aka code for i don't feel like it.)
I was going to post the same thing as esquiress. I think you should skip out if you haven't already. I don't think the interview experience you'd get there would really be relevant to future jobs and you don't want to risk getting in trouble at work. Just say you want to reschedule when you are less busy at work or something.
I agree. Don't go. If they're not honest about how they present themselves, there's no point in even dealing with them. Plus, these types of firms tend to interview EVERYONE who applies, so it's probably not much of an experience booster.
thanks girls. I decided to skip on it. I didn't like that they they didn't straight up say they were a staffing firm. And I called to ask a few more informational questions and was told I would be given several computer tests, so really not someting I want to waste my time with. ou're right- they probably call everyone in. And I've done interviews like that before and it's not at all the interviewing experience that I'm looking for.
I have a few other resumes out to real places, so hopefully I'll hear back on them.
