Which bouquet should I send my Pop pop?
Permalink Closed

My Pop pop is 92 and has moved to the assisted living part of his retirement community. My brother and I are his only living relatives, but unfortunately we live states away.  I don't get to see him as much as I'd like but wanted him to know I was thinking of him.  I thought flowers would be a great way to send that message and will definitely brighten up his room.  I've never bought flowers for a man before so that's where y'all come in! TIA!

Lilles

Tulips

Irises

Roses (Hesitant about these, but what do I know?)

FYI - the vase will be clear, and all the bouquets are the same price so cost isn't a factor.

I voted for irises. I think irises and lilies are the more "masculine" choices but personally I think lilies have a weird smell so I like to look at them more than I like them in my house!

I like the irises and the roses.  How about a cookie or fruit bouquet?   People love those and he can share, making him Mr. Popular in his new home.

I totally agree about the lily smell.  They're just so pretty though!  My bf liked the roses best because they'd fragrance the room, but I just don't think those are masculine enough like you said.

Haha...oh trust me, he already is! I like those ideas but he doesn't really eat a lot, so probably wouldn't get as much enjoyment out of those.

I think the Irises would look nice in a man's room.

You and your brother might also write him a letter or send a card with some photos in it. I think that might brighten his day even more than the flowers. From what I can tell through my work (boss has a lot of elderly clients who are in assisted living or nursing homes) letters or photos are like gold there.

How right you are about a handwritten card.  For years he's told me that he really enjoys it when I send him a letter and update him with my life...this was even before he moved to the retirement community ten years ago.  I'm sure he would enjoy it even more now, and he loves to display and show off all the cards he gets.  Thanks for the reminder!  It's so easy to send a nice card to a loved one, however it seems like people are too busy these days to sit down and do it.

It's really nice of you to send your pop pop flowers.  I'm dealing with a similar issue.  My dad is ill and homebound, and I live 600 miles away.  My boss is a butthole, and never lets us take any time off without getting the blessing of the Pope.  I am completely burned out at work, and I don't know how I can pull it together enough to go my dad's in order to be of some assistance.  On top of that, I would have no idea what I am doing once I got up there.  I guess I'll put this last part in the "bitch session" thread that Collette started a while back!

Again, though, very nice of you!

What a great idea! I hope he enjoys your choice. Personally, I love lilies but those blue Irises are just beautiful.

Irises are my favorite flower so I vote for those! I think he will love any of the choices though knowing that you took the time out to remember.
