my husband and I have the same problem. It's such a pain to pick out anything because he always hates it.

I stay away from anything floral. We use a lot of metal and dark wood, and then accent it with lighter colors. I would try a cool green color (guys seem not to object to green) with more modern touches, i.e. silver accessories. I like your turquoise/coral idea, but I know my husband thinks coral=too close to pink.

Also, if you can someday have separate rooms to decorate (I have a guest BR to put all my cute, girly stuff in, he has a game room in which he hangs beer signs and other crap), it helps a LOT. HTH!

I know this sounds corny but my b/f and I already talked about it, that if we moved in together we were thinking a clean look also. Like tan/sand color walls and a light blue in the bedroom. Also I would have the guest room to decorate girly and he would have a man room like Halleybird said. Maybe you should try that.

I would love for him to have his own room but we are in a one bedroom apartment with 1 bathroom and a livingroom/dining room combo and a kitchen thats it...Not a lot of space to work with I wish we could afford more but even if we bought in the buidling we are renting in the condo price would make some of you sick (it makes me sick to think about - gee I hope that bubble bursts in the westchester market).

Yes in order to find a halfway point between my office in Stamford/Norwalk/Danbury and my fiances office in NYC we settled on White Plains - rent is so not cheap well it is compared to NYC but not much better

Have you watched the show Merge? Maybe you can get some ideas. I'd probably paint the wall's in neautral tones and put color in art, furniture, and other decor. If you can afford an interior decorator, that may help a lot. Or I would go to Home Depot or something, pick out paint chips, and get a furniture catalog (or look online) to agree on what to get and see what looks good together so you aren't arguing in the furniture showroom.

hey, what about a combo like this?

East Cape (DE 5694) (sort of a spearmint blue-green) as a paint color

with neutral furniture, and maybe some accents in this color? Scarlet Past (DEA 150) or another, brighter red? That would satisfy your desire for bright colors while still being man-friendly.

My bf and I ran into the same problem. He likes dark colors and I like light, airy colors. So, we mixed the two. In the kitchen we painted the walls a pale coraly-peach and put up navy curtains and accented it with a pale minty-aqua color. In the bedroom, we used his dark wood furniture, painted the walls a pale lilac (although he swears up and down it's 'not purple') and paired that with an evergreen color. That way both of our tastes were satisfied.

But now, with his move and promotion, we won't be living together for the time being and my new roommate has handed over complete creative control to me!!! Pink and brown, here I come!!!! WOOHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

I don't really have a suggestion on color scheme, but I'd like to throw in my opinion about high $$ sets -- my mom gave me a chunk of money when I bought my first house & I spent most of it on my bedspread / skirt / curtains. After about a year I really wanted to change it, but I really couldn't because I felt bad since I spent so much dang money on it. Now I won't spend more than $200 MAYBE on a "bed in a bag" kind of set - I'd really rather be able to change it out without the guilt. Or buy something neutral like a white down comforter & decorate around that. Just my opinion!!!
