Furniture question for my first real apartment!
Permalink Closed

Ok I can't wait to decorate my first bedroom in an apartment in nyc that doesn't exist just yet, hehe.  The first piece of furniture that I am shopping for is a dresser.  I want it to be dark wood, not fake-o wood, and I would like to use these coral handles, but in WHITE:

coral knobs

Here are some dressers I am looking at:

from Costco

Pros: would look great with my handles because there wouldn't be so many of them

Cons: $650 (kinda pricey, or is this reasonable?), wide and I don't know how much space I will have - I want a full size bed and a desk too!, the drawers are too narrow and deep

from Costco

Pros: Like this shape better, would take up less room, $550 so a little cheaper

Cons: Would this look stupid with 10 white coral drawer pulls?

(the dresser only) from JC Penney

Pros: Pretty, cheaper ($500 but theres shipping costs, Costco doesn't have those), would look nice with coral handles

Cons: Wide, Do I trust JC Penney?

So there are my options so far.  Any advice or opinions?  Has anyone seen this in person that can tell me if prices are the same in the store?  I am not a Costco member sadly, but would it be cheaper if I was one?  Maybe I could convince my parents to join.

I like #2 for an apartment. Costco stuff is always nice. I think the in-store stuff at JCP is OK, but one of their SAs told me that the catalog/online stuff is a completely different part of the company, so I am not sure I trust it.

I really really want those drawer pulls but my dresser is a cheap old second-hand thing and it seems silly to spend so much money on hardware. On the other hand I did get the dresser for free soo....

Anyway, I like the first dresser better but most bedrooms in NYC apartments wouldn't be big enough to fit that and a bed and a desk. I think the knobs would look cute on the second dresser too though.

PS Do they have these in white at the Anthro store or did you see them somewhere else??

They have them at the anthro store, not online though.  I love them in white

I like the second one, mostly b/c of the space concern. I've lived in several apartments in suburban Philly and one in Center City Philly and not one of them would have the space for that big old wide furniture.  It just makes more sense to get something that is space saving, especially when you don't know where you'll be living.

I like the second one because the drawers are wider and it will take up less space.  I think the drawer pulls will add a cool, fun look to it.

Maybe on the second one you could alternate every other drawer?  I don't know if that would look stupid.  Anyways, I have loved those dresser pulls since I saw them in the Anthropoloige catalog.  Whichever dresser you get will look great with those!
