The newsletter I put together for work came from the printer today, and it looks great. My boss was so happy she hugged me (now if they'd just give me a raise since its not part of my job description and I just saved them tons by not having the job sent out).

Just had to share since work has been so shitty lately. Its too bad one good experience has become news!

Yay! Maybe you can use this to negotiate a raise when your review comes around?

Thanks for sharing your story.  It made me feel good to know that there is an office somewhere out there where they actually appreciate the work people do.  Is it just me or are work places overwhelmingly negative places to be these days? It hasn't always been this way.

I think it's especially bad right now. I know everyone at my company is generally miserable. We recently were a total FAIL on one of those "best places to work" surveys - the results showed people generally thought managers were incompetent and unqualified, women and minorities feel discriminated against and people feel that there is no appreciation for the work they do.

I'd like to disagree with the last point and say, yes there is appreciation for hard work; the credit just goes to the wrong people. On at least 10 different occasions in the past three years I've been here, someone else has either taken or been given credit for work that I've done. These are huge projects, too, that I was hired to do, so I just can't understand why someone else gets the credit when I'm clearly doing the work (and my bosses *know* I'm doing the work). I'm not a shrinking violet or anything who won't speak up about work I'm doing, either, so I just can't figure it out. My boss says he thinks it's because I'm a woman. weirdface.gif

So yeah, very frustrating. Makes it hard to even care because not only have they cut our pay, but I don't even get credit for what I'm doing, new programs I'm establishing, results I'm getting, etc. There's no motivation to be here at all.

But greendiamond, I'm so glad you were able to do something and were given credit! I know what it's like to be frustrated where you are and it's nice to have a little patch of sunshine once in a while. YAY!

I did enjoy doing it and I really needed this patch of sunshine. I often feel very taken for granted, and often don't recieve credit for my ideas. But, I did recieve credit for my hard work this time. I had to learn InDesign for Pete's Sake. That wasn't easy! Honcho hasn't seen it yet, so we'll see what she has to say at staff meeting.
