I'm considering changing the pink and brown graphics for stylethread, and I wanted to know how you all felt about this.

On one hand, you could say the combo is dated to 5+ years ago when this site launched.

You could also say you identify pink and brown with stylethread.

Or you could share your thoughts on other colors/graphic treatments.  I'm thinking black, gray, and white would be a good move since it's timeless...

A friend of mine volunteered to help me with a site redesign yesterday, so I'm going to accept that offer and thought I'd take the opportunity to get your take on our look and feel.

I do associate pink & brown with ST, so for me it doesn't feel "dated" just because I think "ooo stylethread!" instead of "ooo colors from everyone's wedding 5 years ago!" But I definitely understand getting restless and wanting a makeover. Personally I'm a little scared of black, gray, and white, just because how I'm picturing it, I think it could easily look a little generic and I like that ST has some personality/identity right now.

Funny,  when I saw the header, I thought of all the color combos I like right away and I was thinking, ooh, not pink and brown though.  But I agree with Kelly - it's just "stylethread" to me

Although, who knows, sometimes change is fun.

I'm a big help, aren't I?

I associate the pink to stylethread, but never really concentrated much on the brown. I think the gray, black, white with some pink might solve the problem.

I'm not sure how I feel about the grey, black and white combo. I feel like it's a forum about style and while those colors are classic, they can also be a little boring. But then again, I can't see what you have in your head so maybe your redesign will be anything but boring.

I like that the pink and brown make it easy to read, but still has flair to it.

You could go with turquoise instead of pink - Pantone declared it the color of 2010 dontcha know wink.gif!  Doesn't get much more 'current' than that!

I don't think there's anything wrong with 'revamping' ST's image a bit, especially if you're going to be reaching out with the site a bit more than just focusing on fashion chat like we have in the past.  The light pink may be a bit .... fluffy?

Or you could do something more subtle, like change the pink to a more purplish/orchid color just to give it a fresher look without changing the identity so much.  But new members won't have enough history to be confused by it and the old members may be indifferent or just as ready for a change as you are - either way, I don't think it would negatively impact readership.

lol - no more dated colors! wink

the subtle change is an interesting idea.  but to your point, the colors will probably not make a difference...

I think it could make a difference, but it would probably be a 'can't hurt, might help' sort of scenario.  If someone stumbled upon the site for the first time  (especially from a button on a blog or etsy store) and it looked current and stylish, they may be more likely to stay and post.

Another thought though - I know there are some other forums out there (maybe purseforum, makeupalley, others that I'm unaware of?) that some people visit in addition to or instead of ST.  It might be a good idea to make sure that our new 'look' doesn't look too much like their look.  You see? wink.gif

I'm behind a change - if the site looks nice if a bit cutesy now, an upgrade could make it over into a modern, more sophisticated version of itself.

Definitely don't want to look like the other forums.  And that's totally what I'm after is a more modern, sophisticated look...

maybe you could show us some options and we could vote on it?? or would that be a huge pain?

huge pain - and I dont think we're there yet.  I do have some creative that already exists that i might use, but I thought I'd try to get a read on the pink and brown or other suggestions before I put any effort toward it.

I have a spectacular programmer friend that is going to help too -- I'm so excited. I want this to be a fun place for me and everyone else again, and I'm so grateful for the help to get us there.

It's all about breathing new life and direction for us here with minimal upkeep for me.  More to come - going to begin redesign discussions tonight smile

I'm not a fan of the gray, white, and black. To me that is going to be pretty dull and boring. I think you need to keep some color in the graphics.

I like the pink but I'm not attached to it. I was thinking Turquoise before Elle said it was declared the color of 2010. To me it always seems in style. That or a pretty royal blue.

I do associate pink and brown with ST, but I also associate it with 2004. smile.gif A little refreshed branding won't hurt, even though I don't think ST looks dated. But I'm not sold on the grey, black and white idea. Maybe black and white with a pop of color (pink, purple?).

On a side note, I also associate pink and brown with Stylebakery (although their's is more of a red-brown), so if you plan to do anything that will compete with them at all, by all means, refresh the ST brand!
