keeping red highlights from fading

Does anyone here have dyed red hair and have good tricks for making it last? I got some red highlight type things a week ago and they already seem faded. I've shampooed twice since I got it done - the first time was with Wash n' Curl but the second time I got some John Freida Radiant Red shampoo & conditioner.

Any good tips other than don't wash every day and use a shampoo made for red hair? That's all my stylist told me to do but I don't know how happy I can be with highlights that look faded after two washes!

Just some ideas to throw out there...wash your hair in cooler water so the hair itself isn't opening up for the heat and leaching out colour, try a gloss spray after styling to pick up the light and glint in those highlights.

I dye my hair red/copper, it fades away rather fast. All different stylists always told me that red washes away the fastest of all colors....well....I tried shampoos that are supposed to preserve color - nothing....

Red always fades quick. When I went red my colorist used a special pre-treatment so the color would stick but each shampoo rinses more and more color and I was using color-safe shampoo. My only advice is don't wash, use color-safe shampoo and touch up 1x a month or so.

I dye my whole head red. My stylist has me wash every other day and use non-sulphate stuff (I use PureOlogy Hydrate shampoo & conditioner). Also, once a week I use a color depositing conditioner (ColorGlow Deep Reflects conditioner), and then approximately once a week I also do a deep conditioning mask (Redken Real Control). Red does fade the fastest, but this routine keeps it up pretty well so I only get color every 6 weeks. HTH!

My stylists also told me to wash with cold ( almost cold, room temp) water, not hot, it preserves the color better.
