My friend just became a mary kay consultant and now she is trying to talk me into becoming one. The thing I have never used there products and the only things I have heard about themhave been bad? Have any of you ever used there products? What did you think of them? Do you think it is worth my time?I am also worried that my friends won't want to buy anything since they seem a little pricey and my friends are the poor starving artist type. I need your input before 2:00pm,Because that is when I need to give them an answer bye.TIA

Well I guess this is too late, but one of my mom's friends became a consultant to get some extra money so we went to her party and tried the stuff. This is really gross, but to me the products smell like tampons! I wouldn't waste your time.

Thanks for your input. It wasn't to late.I told them no,but they are still trying to talk me into it. I agree their prouducts smell strange.I got to try one of thier lipsticks yesterday and found it very gooey and thier face wash left my face very dry. That is why I decided not to sell it.

you should try selling Avon/Mark if your interested in some side money. Plus with Avon you dont Have to go to meetings. I have a friend that sales MK and from what she tells me its pretty hard. First cause their pricey and second I believe you have to front the money for your customers and buy so much to get your products delieverd. Avon/Mark sales itself and you dont have to front money and never have to spend so much money to get your products sent to your door. Okay, im done here.................

I will have to consider selling Avon/Mark prouducts. Wow I didn't know that stuff about mary kay. Allthough I got the feeling they were not telling me everything about selling their products, and they did evade some of my questions about the quality of thier products. Thanks for your input.

I was a consultant for years & although I don't sell it anymore, I do believe that they have a quality product. I have always used the skin care / eye creams, etc & I love it. I also don't think it's any more expensive than department store brands, either, as a matter of fact, it's cheaper than lots of them - although more than drug store brands. I think you need to believe in any products that you sell, so if you aren't sold, you made the right decision. It is really hard to do if you don't carry an inventory, afterall, I don't want to wait 2-3 weeks for products after I pay for them, but there are many inventory options. I think the first obstacle is that if you don't like / use the products, there's no other decision to consider.
I respect everyone's opinion, I just wanted to make sure someone stood up for the products because they really are quality. Mary Kay, Inc sold nearly $2 billion last year - I don't think that many woman are using the products because they suck. That's all.

I din't mean to imply thier prouducts are not quality.I just did not feel comfortable with the consaultant I was dealing with,I felt she evaded a lot of my questions.I didn't care for thier prouduct, but I have very fair and sensitive skin and their are a lot of prouducts I can not use due to the way my skin reacts. You are so wright that if you don't like a product or in my case can not use it.How can you sell the prouduct to others.

No, that's entirely true & I wasn't implying that you didn't think the products were quality - I know you are inquiring, but I love them & I know lots of people do, so I wanted to throw in my 2 cents! I can't help but take up for the products I use - you know how it is! I have zero crows feet / wrinkles at 33 & I completely attribute that fact to getting on a good skin care program including eye creams when I was 18. At the time I kind of thought it was fooey, but now I'm so glad I did!
And yes, consultants, new & old, can be evasive & just "excited" - a lot of people respond to / get caught up in excitement - you sound like me - I want facts, please!!! I can't get behind an idea because someone else is excited about it, which sounds like your friend / consultant.....I couldn't deal with that constant "cheerleading" routine, which is why it wasn't an appropriate job for me, but I know lots of people make lots of money that way.....but all that being said - I have finally gotten to the point that use products from lots of lines - mostly glamour though - and it's fun to try new stuff. But as far a skin care, I'm sold for life unless it changes or I no longer respond to it.
Good luck with that though, and if you decide no for sure, tell her firmly no for sure. "They" can be persistent!!!!

a friend of mine is also big into MK and tried to talk me into selling it. i only use the lip scrub and a face mask from the line and don't care for the makeup and i explained that to her and that i wouldn't feel comfortable selling something i didn't believe 100% in. she got it and stopped asking me to be a consultant. they can be super persistent about you joining up though- she even had her regional person call me!
if you are going to sell something- sell something you believe in. it will show through in your work and people will latch onto much better when you tell them about the products!
