I need a convenient lip color. For a long time, I've colored my lips all over with a neutral lip liner, just a little darker than my natural lip color, then covered that with a layer of vaseline. I love that look, but it doesn't last all day, and I don't like to have to go in the bathroom and fix it - I'd rather something I could just swipe on and be done with. I've heard that NARS makes a wonderful gloss - anyone use it? One thing: I don't want shimmer! Unless it's extremely subtle. I went and tried a bunch of glosses, and even though I found some nice colors they all had too much shimmer.
SO: What's your favorite slightly-better-than-natural lip look?
mac tinted lip conditioner balm, comes in a little pot, in plum (i think)
philosophy kiss me lip balm
those are all that come to mind right now, also i love nars but don't have any experience w/ their natural colored lip colors--mine are all highly pigmented.
lynnie what's YLBB?? as for natural lips, try the following: lancome juicy tube in beach plum mac tinted lip conditioner balm, comes in a little pot, in plum (i think) philosophy kiss me lip balm those are all that come to mind right now, also i love nars but don't have any experience w/ their natural colored lip colors--mine are all highly pigmented.
I really love all the Prada lip balms. They seem a bit pricey ($38), but they last a long, long time (at least 6-8 months for me) and you only need to use the smallest amount. I also really love the packaging- you get eight tiny containers, so they're so easy to carry around. They also really moisturize and contain sunscreen. I've tried all the colors and all they're all pretty subtle (so long as you don't use too much) and give your lips just a little bit of gleam. I'm a big fan of tint 6, soft red, and find it really brightens up my whole face (I'm blond and somewhat fair with a lot of rosiness in my skin) and I end up looking more polished but not too "done". I also love it because it isn't sticky in the slightest! Here's a link to it on NM:
I have been using L'Oreal volume perfect in 120. It has two sides, one is the base (plain colorless) and the other side is the color. I like it since you first put the base on, the color goes on light.
lynnie, I find the balms to be pretty moisturizing- def. as much as chapstick is and I do use them in place of a clear moisturizing balm (like chapstick) when I want color. I would be careful to start with only a little bit though- a little does go a long way, both as far as moisture and as far as color. My lips are def. softer after using it. Here's the list of ingredients (guess it's lanolin-based):
I hate shimmer too - and it dries out your lips... Philosophy sunburst is my new favorite shade. I have two of my friends hooked on it too, so it seem sot work well for different skin types (one has olive and one has peachy skin color - I'm really fair with yellow undertones).
I just got Twinkling Rose by Three Custom Color Specialists & love it. It's got a VERY subtle hint of shimmer & the formula's (not sticky & lasts long) pleasant to wear.
I'm a big fan of the CG lipslicks. They're a very sheer version of whatever color you choose. I keep them all around and apply them all day. (I just put on the one in "edgy" here at my desk.) And they're super cheap so you can get all different colors and see which one works best. I also use them over lipstick sometimes to give a bit of a sheer look to a matte color.
