I went to the beach today and ended up getting pretty burnt. I need something to heal my sunburn - anyone have any tips or products they use? I want to sooth the burn, but not peel, and keep the tan. TIA!
I went to daytona beach for dance nationals in april and got extremely burnt on the beach there even with sunscreen on. The best solution for me was to buy a huge bottle of aloe vera gel and keep applying it alllll the time. I never peeled, it soothed my burn (cooled it, kept me from itching and became less red), and i kept a tan. Aloe always works for me!
I don't know if you've already gone to the store or not but I am an expert in sunburns (thanks to my fair skin). The absolute best way to treat a burn is to buy an aloe plant at walmart and pick the leaves off. You just open the leaf up and squeeze out the gel and apply it directly to the skin. It is awesone and will heal you right on up.
If you don't wanna do that method or want to do quick and easy and some of that you can try regular aloe vera. I use the Hawaiian Tropics Cucumber Melon - great smell and helps releave the pain.
I'm not sure if you are sensitive to the different types of aloe or not but I am. I only use the green aloes and not the blues. I tried the blue one before and it made my burn worse so I haven't ever tried it again.
thanks for the advice girls. I ended up buying some Banana Boat After Sun lotion w/aloe in it and I got pure aloe as well. I put it on last night and again this morning. Right now, I'm still hurting.. I keep getting the chills even though my skin is hot. And why does sunburn make you so darn tired? I can't stay awake!
Start putting it on every 1-2 hours while it is hurting and that will help you some - I know you are at work right now but as soon as you get home start this. it should help some.
I remember my mom buying the aloe vera gel on putting it on our burnt skin. I think she should have bought the sunscreen first! And yesterday I saw this girl picking at her peeling skin. Nooo! So tempting, but bad to do!
Something most people don't know, is to take some tylenol when you get sunbruned. It's anti-imflamatory, so it keeps from your burn to get worse, plus its a pain reliever so it helps you hurt less :). If you ever feel like you might have gotten burnt, take tylenol right away and keep taking it every 4 hours with A LOT of water. I swear, water is the cure-all. It keeps you and your skin hydrated, and you're less likely to peel.
And keep with the aloe! I hope you feel better!! I know, sunburns are the worst!!
Also.. I remember when i was little my grandmother would put sourcream on my skin when i got sunburned as a kid. I don't really remember if it worked, but it's worth a try! The milk in it will soothe and moisturize, and I'm sure the cool sour cream will feel good agaisnt your skin. It's worth a try, if you don't mind the gross-factor.

Great advice. I so do this and didn't even think to suggest it. It definetly helps.
That Banana Boat After Sun Lotion is excellent! We used to use the Aloe from that brand and it was okay, but I got the AS Lotion and every time I've used it (for myself or my husband) we have never peeled. The trick is to apply it right away when you're burned and keep applying regularly.

I totally agree - I'm so glad I bought this stuff. My burn is gone and no peeling!
