my poor little nokia seems to be on its last legs--it's verry old, like at least three years. so its definitely time for a new cell phone but i'm clueless about this stuff.
ugh, at&t/cingular. i signed up w/ them when they were still at&t and now they're cingular. i don't like them at all, the reception is awful and my calls get dropped all the time. i've been w/ them forever and i got sucked into renewing my contract last march for two years because they offered me lots of minutes and so i feel like i sold my soul for a buncha minutes
anyway my contract's not up 'til next march but i'm looking to get a new phone before then because i don't think mine's gonna make it much longer.
p.s. ryanj, my calls were getting dropped all the time and i remember you'd posted that you called and complained when that happened to you so that's what i did and the cs rep. was nice and offered me free minutes, so thanks for the tip!
I don't know what kind of style you prefer (flip, etc), but we use Cingular and my husband just got a Motorola V551 and it's very nice. I have the Erickson Z500a and while it's not bad, I think his is definitely nicer. You also may want to check ebay, I know that some people sell "unlocked" phones, meaning that you can buy the phone for use with any carrier, provided you have a SIM card.
If you're interested, here's the link to the Motorola phone. Motorola V551
I think if you're phone is old, it's probably not on the GSM network. Ask Cingular about getting a GSM equipped phone and that might help improve your reception. It helped me out quite a bit when I got my new phone.
What kind of phone did you end up getting? I am looking for both a new phone and a new provider. We get a discount through work for all the companies and I have Cingular right now and HATE THEM!! Since its under my dad's name I'm giving it to him to use and I can switch over.
I'm thinking Verizon. Are they ok? What kind of phone is decent? I can't afford the razr even with the employee disc.

I have Verizon and I'm pretty happy with them...customer service has always been very helpful, plus I have great reception. My phone is an LG VX6100 and it very rarely drops calls. My BF has an LG phone as well. We're both very pleased with the quality of their stuff.

BF's phone
(He owns the older version of this phone...LG VX 4650)
I get to trade mine in next year with Verizon's 'New every 2(years)' program. I may spring for a Treo 600...that thing would keep my life in check and keep me perpetually amused.

One of my co-workers has the RAZR and is SO HAPPY about it but it looks like a playboy's phone to me, not one for a fashionista.
