Dry skin is sort of new to me...a medication I've been taking the past few years has made my skin dryer and dryer every winter and it's becoming a pain, literally. Right now most days are hovering around 40 degrees, so it's not that cold, and my skin is already super dry! ahhhh!
Does anyone have any recs for good moisturizing products? I'm looking mostly for body washes, lip balms, and face wash but especially moisturizers for my face (for night and day). I'm not having the best luck just randomly picking things out of the drugstore that say "moisturizing" on the label!

I am currently in LOVE with Origins "Drink Up" it is a 10 minute mask that has totally made over my winter skin. I've never had dry skin issues until this fall/winter. I actaully wear it to bed as a moisturizer about 1x a week and then wash it off in the shower. It has the consistency of a heavy lotion, so you aren't going to bed and ruining your pillow cases or anything like that.
I came back to add a coupon code I just received by email. DecFF will get you 20% off and free shipping. Ends today though.

I have the same problem, Kelly. My derm put me on adult acne meds (pill & gel) and it drys out my chin and nose areas badly. Winter makes it worse. The med he put me on for the dry skin just made me break out (starting the whole circle all over again.) A month ago I started using Argan oil right after I wash my face at night and it's been helping. I got the small bottle from Sephora and a little goes a long way (I use 2 drops for the entire face.)
I have good luck with Cetaphil lotion - I tend to have oily skin but get dry patches alot during the winter. The lotion works fine for me, but they also make a creme that's heavier if you're super dry or maybe for overnight.

I have read through a lot of Paula Begoun's information about skincare and the chemistry and biology of it. A lot of it makes total sense: things like maintaining skin's protective, somewhat acidic, pH level, identifying moisturizing ingredients, flagging potentially irritating ones, etc. Her information has really helped me sort through it all, and get past the marketing.
Here are a ton of articles about various topics. I've read most of these, and they're very interesting.
Of course, she does sell her own line of products (I wish she didn't because she has very good things to say, and the fact that she has her own line diminishes her authority a bit). I purchased some of her stuff last month, and I am really happy with it so far. In fact, yesterday--I just bought some more!
I'm posting this so that you can read about the science behind skincare, which I suspect will help you when you're choosing which products to try--regardless of who makes them.
Thanks for the recs!! and pollyjean, thank you very much for those links! I just took a peek because I'm at work but I'm definitely sitting down with them tonight to soak it all up. I know so little about skin care! I saw that it says avoid bath oils which surprised me because that is what I have been doing thinking it was good!
