Slang Words and Their Definitions
Permalink Closed

I know I am getting old because I am hearing words used in new ways. Lets make a list of slang words we use or have heard and their definitions.

Tight: It's the new "cool" according to my 21 year old brother

Pressed: When someone is really into another person (ie. She is so pressed for Tom, and he doesn't even show her any attention); in my experience this is an East Coast slang word

Cool: When you think something is great

Hooking-up: Have sex with someone; when I was in my teens and early twenties, hooking up just meant getting together with someone or making out with them, but not sex.

Hmm, now I am drawing a blank.  Your turn!

I like looking at urbandictionary.com

My favorite definition is for "fo shizzle my nizzle" http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=fo+shizzle+my+nizzle&r=f

fo shizzle my nizzle

1.) A shortened form of the phrase "Indeed, that is a prodigious idea, my African-American brother!"

Would you desire some more orange flavoured soda?
fo' shizzle my nizzle!

That is hilarious!

when my guy friends talk about sex they say "tap that"-- as in "i'd like to tap that a**"--at which point i tell them to filter please! because there is a lady present! :P

yeah, i still think of "hooking up" as anything from just kissing to making out.

i don't know if this qualifies as new slang, but i hear people saying "for real" as both a question and a statement.  like, "he broke up with her?  for real?"  "for real."  or, "we just had the worst dinner at the olive garden."  "for real."  man, typing this makes me feel old!

oh here's a couple more:

blast:  to spill a secret as in "She just put your business on blast!"

blow:  to be able to sing well as in "Mariah Carey's psycho but she sure can blow."

"whip"

my husband used it the other day, he took my car to work and his friend was " did you bring your whip to work?" meaning something good. I guess Ciara uses it in her song too. I had no clue to it........ gosh, I feel old.

the slag I still use and I think I will never stop saying is "ghetto" , I sure you know what that means

here's one i made up -- if you're seeing a guy but not sure if he's officially your boyfriend yet, he's your "manpanion" (a man who's your companion).

scarlett i love manpanion!  too clever!

here's one that a friend of a friend made up (and i've never met this girl but i use her word all the time!)--

action theory- confidence/charisma/sexiness.  like "is he cute?" "no, but he has major action theory."  or "yeah, but no action theory" or "yeah, and he has action theory."  oh and guys w/ action theory (esp. the good looking ones) have a high likelihood of being "players."

which begs the question--how does one define a "player"?

I don't know if this counts, but when Scarlett said "manpanion" GREAT WORD it made me think of this. My brother and I started referring to boobs as "tatters".

My friends have re-instated "weaksauce": meaning lame or stupid.

My friend always says "woof" when something (or particularly someone) is gross. Like I'll say, "I was talking to Mary in class today..." and he'll interrupt me with, "Oh, woof!" Apparently it's from some old TV show?

Another friend says that he "taxed that shit" when he had sex with someone. No one knows the reasoning behind it, but I've heard rumors it's related to taxidermy? Sick.

Umm all the other ones I can think of are drug stuff. I think that's a bad sign.

i always thought that a manpanion was used when referring to 2 homosexual men...  apparenlty i have been lied to...

Here's what my friends use... they are all related to lame guys

1. Chach- a super lame guy, in the guido-sense, who thinks he's cool. The root is the Scott Baio character Chachi.

2. Jorts- a chach that wears jean shorts

3. BLJ- a chach that wears a Black Leather Jacket

sfclinevandy -- I love those expressions! They are so funny!

Scarlett -- I've been using 'for real' recently  too, though in the gofugyourself Britney's-letters-to-her-fans version: 'for reals, y'all!'

I think 'word' is still being used, right? Sometimes I love dropping old slang into conversations -- referring to something as 'grody', etc. Make me laugh.

Oh, how about calling a pretty girl a 'Betty'? has anyone ever heard that? It's suppose to come from skater's lingo...

FH (future husband) and I sometimes call each other "G", as in "What up, G?" Two of the whitest, most un-hip ppl on the planet calling each other 'gangsters' and encouraging each other to 'keep it real'. One of my co-workers calls me his "home slice" -- it's like a home girl, as far as I can tell...

Yeah, Betty is old school. I remember that one. Here's another one - "scrumping" - means eveything but sex - as in "Yeah, I walked in on them scrumping" or "I heard Mary scrumped with Jane's boyfriend last weekend" Might have just been an East Coast thing...

My brother uses the word thoss to refer to sex.  It's weird.  He said something like, "DJ is just with Abi because he wants to thoss her."  I think he just made it up but it's kind of fun to say.

My husband says busticated all the time, as in: "I don't want to drive your car to work today because it's all busticated."  And, "I had to work late because this computer was busticated."  It's rubbed off on me and I say it entirely too often.

I know there are others but I can't think of them right now.  I've heard a lot of the ones already mentioned, but I've never heard "f*cking congress," although I like it and I think I'll use it so people can ask me what it means.

since moving to northern cali, i've started hearing/saying "tight" (cool, awesome) and "hella" (means "really" or "a lot") all the time.  ugh, hella is really bad.  i hate that i say it now, but i can't help it!  i can't wait to go back to the east coast and have my friends laugh at me!

here's a great one....wicked!  this is a northeast thing, i think- especially boston.  wicked pissah!  awwwww, reminds me of home....

my friend and i call each other "broseph" (guy) and "brosephine" (girl).  he has a TON of slang words that he uses all the time and it's totally rubbing off on me.  he calls it his "slanguage."  i'd give you all more slanguage examples, but i kinda like it that nobody else understands us when we talk sometimes...
