I have been consuming music voraciously... spending too much money. most of my friends scoff at me when I mention itunes; they get all theirs off limewire. Now, leaving aside the issue of ethics, do any of you have experiences with it? I am very very leery of those sharing sites after kazaa infected my old computer with spyware and rendered it unusable, so what's your take?
i occasionally use limewire. Technically they can't prosecute you if you've downloaded less than $1,000 worth of music (just learned that in my computer class). If you decide to go with Limewire you can actually turn off the option to share music with people. I turned that off for myself. I can download other people's music, but they can't download mine. To turn it off go to Tools, Options, Sharing, select the folder(s) and click Remove. Hope that helps
I used to have it and am considering downloading it again. The only problem I ever noticed was that it was a slow download, but I think that's going to be true for most "illegal" download programs.
I use limeware for movies and my bf uses it for songs. When I got over here today to do my CPA review course online he had it blasting and the songs sounded good. I'd give it a try. I've never had any real problems with the program.
***On a side note there has been a recent ruling that programs like Kazaa and limeware are not illegal and you can't be prosecuted by downloading songs from them. I read the article in a Destin paper and USA today 2 weeks ago while on vacation and the RIAA has agreed to stop suing over it. MPAA has not agreed to stop suing over movie downloads so still be careful with that one...
You are always at risk when downloading stuff off the internet. Check the ID tags carefully to make sure that you are actually getting mp3 or wma files, or whatever music file format you like.
I've tried a lot of different music downloading programs and limewire seems to work pretty well. I have anti-spyware and very updated anti-virus software, so I'd look into that before you download. But basically it's so far so good!
