my mom's house might slide off the hill!!!

So some of you might have heard about all the houses sliding off the hill in Laguna Beach, CA. Well, my mom's house is 4 houses away from that. She had to evacuate early this morning. She only had time to get the doggies, the family silver from Ireland, some family jewelry, and some important paperwork. The 1 road into the canyon was starting to buckle so they wanted to get everyone out as soon as possible. When she left the house was still up on the hill and she hasn't heard anything otherwise, so we're assuming it's still there. Apparantly no one's going to be allowed back in for a few days, and even when they're able to go back, it's probalby only going to be to get some more things.

Anyways, I just wanted to let you guys know. Everyone's safe though, and that's what's important. I just feel horrible for the people whose houses slid, as NO insurance policy will cover earth movement...

There's no insurance policy to cover landslides? I can't believe that! I was just there a couple of weeks ago. Lindsay, I'm sending good vibes out there!

Oh, wow... that's crazy. It is most important that everyone is safe, but it still must be very hard - I'm pulling for her!

Hopefully everything will be okay! But have her check with her insurance agent when she's able for future problems.  There should be a policy she can purchase.  Speaking as an Insurance Agent, several in my state didn't think they could purchase earthquake coverage (even though we've probably never had one, there is a chance) and were suprised to find they could purchase the coverage and it isn't that expensive.  States do vary when it comes to coverages, but I would think there is some type she coule purchase.

Again, I hope everything turns out okay and I'll keep her and the others in my prayers!

thanks so much for all the good thoughts guys!! As of right now it looks like everything's stabalizing. They're letting people from the opposite side of the canyon move back into their homes tonight, and either tonight or tomorrow my mom's going to be allowed to go inside really quickly to get some more things and close up the house. After that, who knows. She said it could take up to a month to get gas and water back. For now I guess she'll just stay at a friend's house since she can't just up and leave all her patients to come up and hang out with me for awhile. Anyways, I just really appreciate all your kind words :) Hopefully the house will stick where it is. It's already survived 2 slides and a huge fire

ETA: I just got off the phone with my mom and apparantly 2 houses on the street directly behind her have been yellow-tagged. She doesn't think they're right behind her, but they're pretty damn close. So the quesiton is, when they do supportive construction work on those houses, will they slide into her or will the construction damage her house and cause her to slide? AHHHHHH!!! This all sucks so much!!!
