I got a job offer today! I haven't worked in 4.5 years because I have been a stay at home mom, so since I am getting divorced, I was frightened to death about the recession and was thinking I would have to take any old low paying admin job that came along!
I hadn't even officially started looking because my soon-to-be ex husband, aside from all the things he put me through before, has been logistically very cool. He continued to support me and the kids over the summer to allow me time to get my wits about me and transition to independence slowly...mostly for the kids sake, but also because he knew I was in a very dependent position for so many years... After getting some other personal business taken care of in June, I updated my resume and started thinking seriously about what to do next as far as career. I really didn't want to work as an admin ever again, but I was ready.
So last week I sent one IM to a former coworker from the days of telecom, asking if she knew of any opportunities, she immediately sent an email to another former coworker of ours who is now in management at an energy company, he told her he had a position he needed to fill very soon and to send my resume that day. I sent it, he asked me if I could interview on Monday. I nailed the interview with him, the director and the CIO, met with HR.... and today, HR called to offer me the job as a business analyst! The salary is well above what I was asking and it's exactly what I wanted in terms of company size, benefits, motivated people and opportunity.
I am so grateful and humbled. I haven't had a break like this in I don't know how long, and some of you know the mess I have been through with my marriage. So this is exactly the kind of boost I needed right now!
I feel great today!!! Please share in my excitement!!
AND meanwhile, I need some new business casual attire, so I'll be copying some of your thread styles for sure!

Congrats! You deserve a break and I'm glad you got one! I know how it must be to be to have to deal with everything you have had to deal with and I'm so glad this worked out. Yay!
I am super excited, not only to have the opportunity to prove myself again, but to have my own money and independence. Regardless of my divorce, it will be very nice to have the freedom that earning your own represents. But especially because for 10 years, I have been married to a man who freaks out and spewed panic and hatred every time I spent anything over $100 in one day. Literally. I learned to make a bunch of small purchases over longer periods of time just to make it LOOK like I wasn't spending "hundreds." Absurd!! I've been walking on eggshells and defending myself for so long...so this just feels so great, I can't even describe...
Kiccali, the dress code is business casual. I just bought a few things from Express and five pairs of pumps on sale from DSW and a Bandolino that was liquidating. I am hoping that Banana/Gap has another friends and family discount coming up with the Fall season.
