our computer is being a total jerk. i think it has a spywear virus or something -- the homepage changed to some thing with the address "about::blank" and no matter what i do i cannot change it back. it seems to be only on internet explorer -- when i use explorer the computer freaks out, but it's fine if i'm using netscape.
we have run norton and ad aware, to no avail. any suggestions? can i unistall internet explorer to get rid of the virus and then re-download it? (i hate netscape) i've checked out the "remove programs" part of the control panels, but i'm not sure if this is the right way to do it.
that is a spyware thing. I just googled it and most pages say to try spybot search and destroy (free to down load on download.com) to see if it can be found that way. Otherwise you have to get rid of it manually. For more info google about:blank which is the name it goes by. This is one of the pages I looked at.

I 2nd Spy Sweeper. I have it too and ever since I installed it, my PC has been free and clear of that annoying spyware. I used to be bombarded with it. Good luck!
i downloaded the adware away that the website lsu posted suggests and it seemed to work.
thanks for the advice -- i'll keep spy sweeper in mind. i'm always nervous about these things b/c i don't know how you can tell if it's really a program that gets rid of spywear or if it's a hoax that's going to install spywear.
