The Daily Must-Have: The Pressto Revolutionizes Tofu!

Some say that I have an obsessive personality (especially for all things VEG), but how can I NOT obsess over the Pressto - the coolest product Ive seen all week!

How many times have you been left totally bummed out after using 5 billion paper towels to drain that block of tofu? This product will put an END to all that soy-based shame.

The Pressto is the first ever compact kitchen device that presses water out of a block of tofu and then lets you quickly dice it into small, ideal-for-cooking sized cubes in just seconds.

This neato device is being sold on Quirky.com which has a ratherquirky selling policy. They dont actually manufacture the product until they hit the correct number of presale units. Right now 14 units have been presold, but they must reach 250 before production!

So help them help you and preorder yours today at Quirky.com. Your tofu will thank you!

Wow!!!!!!!!!
that's awesome!!!!

I really want one! I just bought a box of tofu from CostCo and haven't got around to eating it yet because I hate wasting paper towels on them.

btw, what do you use to flavor your tofu with while cooking it? I was wondering if theres something out there besides oil and low in fat/cal?

OMG I wish our Costco had tofu!!!  What section do they have it in at yours, Tati?

I buy a kind of tofu that doesn't need to be pressed because I hate pressing, but it's about damn time someone came up with something like this!

Eh, no paper towels for me. I just use the really thin tea-towels (dish towels, etc). I have a ton of those because IKEA sells them really cheap. I use about three or four and just throw them in the wash with my other towels once a week. Just make sure you are using CLEAN towels and not the ones that have been hanging on your oven door for two weeks!

Tati: I've used just about any marinade that I would normally for meat. I've even let it sit in coconut milk. And while cooking, if it's a non-Asian meal, it will probably be canola or olive but for Asian meals, I use sesame oils.

thanks relrel!

Elle- my CostCo has it by the frozen veggies and tortillas that you cook. It's a 3pk with 4 pieces in each box. I can't remember exactly how much it is, but I know its under $4 for sure!

Yeah, I use kitchen towels too, but this would definitely speed up the process.

Tati, any marinade is possible - the best options IMO are based on salt, spice, or acid/sour, so things like soy sauce, miso, chili sauce, vinegar, tomato sauce, even wine. Savory or acidic marinades penetrate well so you get more flavor.

There's also a vegetable broth paste called "Better than Bullion" that can be mixed with some water, or look around for a vegetable broth powder - these make a good "base" for sauces and marinades.
