Eyeliner that Doesn't Smear
Permalink Closed

Does anyone use a good eyeline that doesn't smear?  Right now, I use Almay Amazing Lasting 16 Hour Pencil, and I've always liked it, but lately I've noticed it smears a lot.  Can anyone recommend a good one?

Can't suggest an eyeliner, but have you changed any of your products?? I noticed my mascara was smearing suddenly and I couldn't figure out why, and then I realized, I have switched to tinted moisturiser from foundation which explains the smearing, just a thought......

Nope, unfortunately, that's not the cause.  Everything I am using now is what I've been using for a long time.  Thanks though

i was having issues with my eyeliner smearing and my eyeshadow literally dissapearing by mid-afternoon and i bought the laura mercier eye make-up base and now my eye makeup doesn't budge...

also, i suggest smudging a matching powder over your liner to lock it into place so that it doesn't smear.  hth!

I had that problem with practically every drugstore brand.  This sounds weird, but I have very dry skin all over, except my eyes, where it is oily.  I now use Clinique eyeliner and it will stay all day and night.  I also use their eyeshadow base, which I will occassionally put under eyeliner as well.  I just got two Estee' Lauder eyeliners and I've only used them a couple times but I like them too.  I haven't tried any others.

This is the base--I use the color canvas b/c it is neutral:

Touch Base for Eyes

No smear, no fade, no creasing. Stays on until washed off. Also works as holding base for other eye makeup.

How To Use
Use ring finger to apply colour from lash line to brow, blend gently. Can be worn alone or under other eye shadows. Remove with eye makeup solvent. Note: Always close compact completely to prevent product from drying out.

This is the eyeliner I use:

Quickliner for Eyes

Clinique's automatic eye pencil twists up. Glides on. Smudges to a smooth blur of colour. Silky formula slinks on — lining, defining, with the greatest of ease.

How To Use
Swivel up only one eighth of an inch (pencil does not retract to avoid exposing formula to air, which is drying). Line eyes. Allow colour to set for 60 seconds to ensure transfer-resistance. Recap securely after using to protect the formula. Can be used alone or over eye shadow. Remove with Take The Day Off Makeup Remover For Lids, Lashes and Lips.

Works Well With
High Impact Mascara
Colour Surge Eye Shadow Super Shimmer

These products are at Clinique.com

Sorry if these pictures posted weird--I had some troublew with it

my mother has cancer and whenever she has chemotherapy, she loses her eyelashes, which results in any eyeliner gravitating into her eye.  I found this bobbi brown long lasting eyeliner for her and she says it stays put all day, and it's water/tear proof.  I highly recommend it - you can get it at Neiman's http://www.neimanmarcus.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?itemId=prod12320&parentId=cat000296&masterId=cat000295&index=8&cmCat=

Thanks jacL!  The pics posted perfect.  Is it bad that I've never even heard of a make-up base before?!  So that stuff helps keep your eyeliner and shadow in place?

Lemon-AidBenefit's LemonAid eye base. $18 and wonderful. Does not dry out like the Clinique eye base does.

Benefit Babe cakes - eyeliner.  $18.  Fabulous and you can make it as thick or thin as you want.  Does not smear, fade, or move all day long! It also lasts a long time!

Long Handle Sable Eyeliner BrushApply Babe cakes with this and some water.  $8

Liquid usually doesn't smear, and Maybeline makes a waterproof one in both a brush or a felt tip. It's pretty good. However, you have to be so precise with liquid application,  I usually don't bother.

I recently bought Mac's powerpoint eye pencil. I think it was about $16. It is the best I've used to memory. The lady said it would be easy to smudge in the first minute or so after application, but then it's smudge/water resistant. I'd dare call it waterproof, as I do have to rub a little to get it all off. It's super soft, and not like an ordinary pencil. I would highly recomment it.

If you don't mind using a brush, Bobbi Brown Gel Liners are practically budge/smudge-proof.  As for pencils, I like Armani Smooth Silk Eye Pencils.

Thanks - I was wondering about MAC's eye pencil.  I'll have to check that one out too.  Thanks!

yes, using an eyeshadow base keeps your shadow and liner on all day (and all thru the night if you are bad like me, and once in awhile go to bed with your makeup on!).  But maybe i will try the Benefit eye base next time, because the clinique does dry out (in the compact) after about 6 months or so.

Liquif-EyeI don't know if you like liquid eyeliner, but this stuff from Too Faced is the best. Just run it across your eyeshadow and it makes it into eyeliner in that color. It stays on all day! It is $17.50 at Sephora.com.

Definetly check out benefit's eye base.  I use to get really frustrated with Clinique because it would dry out before I got half way through it.  Now I use it all up before it can dry out. I've had my benefit one going for at least a year if not longer.

I use Stila's smudge pot, and that stuff does not move!

i use the "wheat" color (that is what the make-up girl suggested) and place two small dots on my lower lid and blend on the lid and upper area...  it holds my eye make-up like nothing before!  i am so so so impressed by it!

eye basics Suggested retail price: $22.00

choose colors---------------linen wheat bisque pale pink mocha buff

A cake eye liner that stays-on longer and defines the eyes without smudging. Use a damp eyeliner brush to create a range of looks.
