love handles

How can I get rid of these little love handles I have?  I do cardio 3-4 times a week and strength training 2 times a week (no time for more of either).  My strength training inculdes upper and lower body as well as back and sides--I heard side bends (standing straight then leaning over to each side with a weight in your hand) would reduce them, but they are not!  Ideas please!

Umm, lipo. Probably not the answer you wanted to hear, but the best way to target trouble spots that want won't go away no matter what.

jacL - do not get lipo!!  You can work the love handles off!  My boyfriend is a personal trainer, and I have the same issue.  He's got me in the gym doing strength training two days a week and cardio 2 days a week.  I also do crunches on my off days.  I am honestly already noticing a difference and it's only been since January.  One thing to consider - how healthy is your diet?  What you eat can make a big difference too.  Just know that if you keep working out and eating right, they will go away.

Would you consider the rest of your body in perfect shape?  If not, that just might be the last place to budge and as you get more in shape overall, the love handles will go down.  I think lipo is the only way to get rid of fat that just won't go away, but I would not recommend that route.  I think that once you are more in shape, if they are still there a little it could be really sexy!  There's no reason to have no fat on your body, IMO.

Thanks, everyone.  I am petite and wear a small size but my problem area is my middle--not so much my tummy but more so my thighs (as is the case with every woman in my mom's family) and these little love handles I am complaining about.  I have gotten used to the fact that I will always have thighs too large for the rest of my body, but I feel as if fat on my sides just should not be there!

I also go thru spurts with healthy eating--this week has not been too good, so maybe that's why I started freaking out about a little side fat, because I am generallly happy with my body.

Anyways, about the lipo...in my dreams only!

I am the same way.  I'm just trying to come to terms with it too.  I have heard that running helps with slimming down in that area.  Do you run? what kind of cardio do you do now? I quit doing the eliptical and just run on a treadmill and I noticed a difference.

Isubatgirl,
how long did you run until you noticed a difference? I run 3-4 times a week and weight-train 2x a week. I'm getting frustrated too! I hear you jacL! I have the same problem. When I go out, I'd rather stand the whole night than sit because my fat rolls! Urgh!!!

well, you cannot spot reduce and doing ab work only builds muscle, it does not get rid of fat. So, up your cardio and remember that abs are made in the kitchen HTH

Welp, I might get flamed for this but.... have you tried Mesotherapy?  It's a very controversial alternative to liposuction that involves multiple injections of certain plant extracts into the mesoderm.  Google produces tons of information on it, some negative some positive.  It gets kind of confusing!  Anyway, I received 12 injections in my hips three weeks ago and I've already lost an inch and a half.  That might not seem like a whole lot but I worked my ass for six months to lose 1 inch so 1.5 in three weeks is incredible.  I know things like this aren't for every one, especially when it's not known to be 100% safe, but it is an option you might look into and discuss with your doctor.
