What Cell Phone Provider do You Use?
Permalink Closed

i remember reading a consumer report on cell phone providers and the best ones for different areas of the country.  well sprint was supposed to be good in the midwest and it has been sucking recently.

What Cell Phone Provider do You Use and Where do you live?  Are you happy with them?

Sprint, Chicago, not sure (thinking no).

I have T-mobile.

I used to have A&T when in Brooklyn, and that's was good, but in Buffalo (NY) it didn't have service, so I had to switch.

I like T-mobile better: it works here and in NY, and it was covered even when I went to Long Beach (CA), and even in Canada, if I am not too far from the border. If it works in your rea, Id reccommend it.

i think definate location is very important in cell phone service.  My boyfriend is with Sprint and it works great in Milwaukee but less so in Madison.  I have a friend whose T-mobile (i think?) service works well in Minneapolis but terrible in Madison.  I have Cingular and it works well in both Milwaukee and Madison.  I am very happy with Cingular, I even get good service in old cement buildings.  I am moving to Chicago, so I hope I don't have to change my service.

Verizon, Los Angeles...I can't say they're my favorite people in the world, but still a pretty good provider.

I got Verizon in the first place because it was the only one I knew of that would cover the podunk Virginia town I went to school in, Los Angeles, and New York. Verizon has great reception just about anywhere...I've even used it on the elevator on the way to work.

My only beef is that there are some really random dead spots (like in the middle of the USC campus...phone completely drops dead)

I have Verizon and I agree w/ Lilykind about the dead spots. I live in farmland, so occasionly I will lose some calls, but if I do I just call and complain and they will give me something free. I have been given free mins., money off my bill and free downloads. I am pretty happy w/ them and my contract is up in July and I think I will stick w/ them.

I have Sprint PCS and I love.  I don't have international service, but I've used it all over the U.S. and I've always had good reception.  I've even had good reception is some really remote places.

Cali. and i have and Love Verizon. I've had at&t before and the service sucked! I also think it depends on the kind of phone you have. My mom has a cheap phone and her phone drops or sounds like static sometimes. My husband and I spend $ on our phones and have no problems.

LA area (santa monica) & i have verizon

it works everywhere & i am pretty happy w/ them.  i rarely get dropped calls & always have service when my friends don't.  i had cingular when the whole cell phone craze started (haha, j/k, more like 5 yrs ago but that's when it started for me!) and i hated it.  i never had reception & i later found out they were overcharging me every month i was w/ them.  i also love verizon's new every 2 plan.  i got a new phone a few months ago for free & it's not a junky promotional one, it's a sweet LG w/ camera & video & i love it!

I have nextel,I am In cleveland OH. My cell Phone just plain sucks. It will go from fully charged to dead with out worning leaving me stranded without a phone.I drops calls all the time. Sometimes even if I have my phone on it puts calls threw to voice mail,or I will get a voice mail 2 to 3 days after the person called. Some buildings it will not even work in, so I have go out side to get a signal.

I have cingular and its ok not great. I'm changing after the contract is up in October. I'm going to have the bf come out of lurking to answer this one. He's had them all since we started dating (I'm not kidding!) There were times he had 2 cell phones at once so he can tell you all about the cs at each one and his opinion.
I'm in Baton Rouge.

This is me. I've had Cingular and it was too pricey and the customer service sucked and it didn't cover any rural areas. I live in TX and driving from major city to major city means you go through lots of rural areas. Not cool.

Then I had AT&T. Baaaad reception in Austin. And again with the bad customer service. (At least while it was being bought out.)

Now I have Sprint and it rocks. I drop calls every now and then but rarely ever and I've never traveled anywhere, in state or out, where it doesn't have service. And Sprint doesn't charge me a fee if I go out of my home area. I can call from anywhere that has Sprint coverage and there's no extra charges.

You gotta keep on me about the lurking thing? j/k. Ok... where to start...... Sprint (Sprint,Boost Mobile, Nextel and Alltel since they're all the same company)work ok, as long as you are on a major interstate or city. Verizon works pretty well, no complaints. T-Mobile works well also. I've gone around the country without a problem. Those two work well almost everywhere I go. Cingular and AT&T have way too many subcribers with not enough processing power. In a nut shell, Verizon's got the largest digital footprint available (Even works in Puerto Rico), and T-Mobile gives you the worldwide capability.

I'm in Chicago and I have Sprint.  I love Sprint.  I've had it for at least the past 5 years and I have great service.  I have nationwide long distance which means I can call anywhere and not get charged.  I've been to Cali, New Orleans, Vegas, etc w/it and have never had a problem - it always works.  I get great reception in Chicago too.

I have been with Sprint for six years.  The best cell phone provider does depend on your area, none are flawless everywhere.

In my area, North Texas, Sprint almost never drops calls and is very clear.

I have Cingular and it's just okay. The customer service plain sucks but I have really good reception in most places and have never had a problem with calls being dropped. But they are expensive and I feel like it's not worth it. The only reason I'm still with them is that my dad pays the bill, but next year when he stops I think I'll switch to T-Mobile or Sprint.

I live in northern NJ and I have Nextel.  I hate them with a passion!  I could be sitting in my kitchen talking on the phone and then all of a sudden the call gets dropped and I have no service.  It's unbelievable, I can't believe I'm actually giving this company my money.  I'm used to having the direct connect so I haven't switched, but I do curse them out all the time!

Cat, we had a brand new phone that had a battery that would not keep a charge.  Just the other night I took a can of air (the kind used to clean your keyboard or something like that), took the battery out and sprayed the air all over the back of the phone and now it works perfectly.

so i called sprint and complained and it was my fault!  i haven't updated my phone in a year and missed two updates!  whoops.  it's working a lot better now and the guy was suuuper nice.  i think i'll stick with sprint, but get a new phone i've had it for 2-3 years so i can get up to $150 phone free.  the only thing i hate about sprint is their phones....they're horrible compared to the other providers.

also, since i might eventually move to austin....it's good to hear that the tx. girls like sprint too.
