i went to the grocery store yesterday and the peaches smelled so good, i just had to buy a few. i am tempted to just wash the outsite of them really well with soap and eat them like an apple, but is that very sanitary or even tasty?? would i taste the soap? i've eaten the skin before and it didn't really taste like anything, but i was just wondering how most people eat peaches. i'm pretty impatient and it seems like too much work to peel them first.
how do you eat a peach? do you cut it up first or eat it like an apple? it's healthier to eat plain, but i'm craving a peach right now cut up with some vanilla ice cream, yum!
Well, first, you always have to at least rinse the peach because the skin is sorta furry. But other than that, how I eat them really depends on the availability of a wet paper towel. If I'm at home then I'm gonna eat them like an apple with all that delicious sticky sweet juice running down my arms but if I'm at the park or something I'll try to cut them up before.

thanks everyone! i want to eat it the apple way just felt weird about the skin and wanted to know what everyone else does. xtinastyles - that's a good idea to buy organic - thanks!
For future reference, peaches and nectarines are one of the "dirty dozen" - the foods with the highest levels of pesticides. If you're at all concerned or sensitive to chemicals, this is one fruit to always buy organic.
Conventional peach growers use up to 45 different pesticides. The skin is too thin to prevent the inner fruit from contamination.

I started buying all my food organic, or as much as possible after reading the Omnivore's Dillemma. I felt like I couldn't go back to my regular way of eating.
Everyone I know eats peaches as apples, with the skin on....but I can't, to me this velvety cover spoils the whole juicy champagny inside ( if I was lucky enough to buy the good kind, not the "grass like"), especially in donut peaches, so I cut it off....
if you can't get past the furry skin, nectarines are a good option. Yes- buy organic, rinse (I might give a quick, diluted spray of fruit wash just to be anal about it), and eat with skin-on. You can also cut into wedges too.
