My brother and I did that the other day. He had two that lived a few streets over. He kind of freaked out, but then we did further checking and we found out they two guys got arrested for public urniation.
I have checked my are yet, becasue I think I would totally freak if any and how many live by me. I know that at least one would show up- a principal of a local elmentary was conviced of molestation.
Is there a way to check what each the offenses mean- like if someone was charged w/ 4th degree sexual conduct.

okay, in my bordering on the ghetto zip code, i had like 4 and they were all statuatory rape, so i'm not really worried about that. (as an aside...seems a little unfair that they have to register that.)
but in the zip code where i'm moving in a few weeks, in the nice little mostly residential, fairly upscale neighborhood that my new apartment's in, there are three with multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault/batter, etc. living *just down the street.* i'm not gonna show this to my fiance, he would flip out. i'll just be very alert and not walk alone...
a few months before i moved in with the BF, an actual letter from the sheriffs department arrived and it had a MUG SHOT OF A NEW SEXUAL PREDATOR that would be living in my area.. literally three blocks away and he was the scariest looking dude EVER!!!!!!!! i was so freaked out and couldn't sleep that night at all....
i just looked and there are 4 but i don't recognize the streets at all... one was arrested for this: Importuning;
This is SO disturbing, and I don't have children. They just arrested a guy 5 houses down from me last week for abusing a 7 yr old that he was watching after school until his mom got home from work, absolutely awful. And seriously, ladies, what mom would leave their 7 yr old in the care of a 33 year old neighbor? Would you ever dream of doing that?

I so should not even have looked at this. So in Chicago they have to allow certain amount of space for low-income housing. I happen to live a block and a half from this place called the Diplomat. It's low-income housing. It's totally gross and all these creepy men hang outside of it all the time. I just found out that 5 sexual offendors live there. I just don't understand why we have to allow things like this into our neighborhoods. I understand the need for low-income housing, especially for single mothers and people who have just falled down on their luck but to fill a place with criminals and sex offendors is just beyond me. Tuesday walking past one of the men grabbed my arm, I told him to get his f-ing hands off me but what is to stop him from following me home. Ugh I'm sorry I'm rambling here I'm just so infuriated about this. I live in a good neighborhood in an expensive condo. I shouldn't have to worry about things like this. Sorry to hijack the board, I just had to vent.

You and I must be in the same zip code, because I live in Lakeview and there are 37 sex offenders in my zip code too. And one lives on my block right down the street. Wonderful. Though I must say i'm not suprised, look at all of the rapes that have gone on and go on down here. It seems like I'm always hearing of another rapist on the loose in Lakeview/Lincoln Park.

thanks asf! what a strange arrest word... it sounds as if he was continuous pushing himself upon someone that didn't want it. awful...
not to highjack this but i just wanted to point out that the presence & number of sex offenders in your neighborhood isn't necessarily linked to the affluence of your neighborhood. the laws concerning sex offenders are really broad so registered sex offenders can include anything from people who pee on the streets to people who actually molest little children. not that you shouldn't be concerned, but i always feel like websites like this tend to do more harm (in the sense of creating a frenzy or paranoia) than good (in terms of letting people know when there are legitimate reasons to be concerned).

Nope, can't get any info. I have to register and pay for any information. That is so bogus. I'm not paying for something that I don't even know that I will get (info, that is).
I know there is a site somewhere that gives more detailed information. The address escapes me though.
I am totally against this though. I can totally understand why someone (especially with kids) would want to know if a sex offender is moving into town, but I think this is a serious invasion of privacy and cruel and unusual punishment.
First of all, I feel that if these people are not rehabilitated and are going to pose a threat, they shouldn't be out of jail in the first place. By putting these people on this website, they are saying that this person is still dangerous. Why are dangerous people allowed out in society???
Second, they don't do this for any other crime. Wouldn't you like to know if a murderer is moving nearby? Or someone who committed a large robbery? Well, you don't get to know (and honestly I don't think you should know). Why is this just done for sex offenders?
Also, once someone has served their sentence and is released into society, they should be given a second chance to live an honest life. Just because you did something once doesn't mean you will do it again, and if the authorities think you will, again, why would this person be released from jail in the first place? I just don't think that any crime that doesn't necessitate life in prison or the death penalty should have to stay with you in such a public way forever.
On the NJ site, there are people who committed their offense in the 70's. Enough is enough!
OMG, 29 in my area! And at least 2 nearby and it's supposedly the "good area." (MOst are from the surrounding apartments. Gosh, no wonder they make the "good areas" gated. And 60 where I used to live! 1 where I lived temporarily in my parents' second house off in the countryside. And ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-FOUR where I go to school. MAN! I guess where I live it IS the "good area" of town. SCARY!
