Hi ladies, I am going to try out an idea I have had soon and I wanted to get your opinions. I am a graphic Designer with a job that pays squat. I am going to start working from home making similar things that I make at my job and I want to know if you all think there is a market for it.
I make things like photo albums, photo storage boxes, picture frames, ect.I want to make them customized though. Some examples of that would be making the albums, boxes or frames out of fabric that matches prom, formal, bridesmaid, or whatever gowns. customizing it for your high school or college, or whatever activity you are in, ex: cheerleading, poms, theatre. I can also customize things like your name and year. That way, girls can send me a swatch or picture of their dress, and I can totally match it. And if you are having a wedding, you can send the same, and give all the birdesmaids a photo album that matches their dresses!! I know I would have loved to have something like this in High School to match all my dresses, but thats just me. I want to know honestly what you all think! I just think the stuff they have out there right now is kind of cheesy, and would love to do customized work. Any opinions are very welcome!!!TIA
Oh I like that. it would be great for sororities because one of the things you get for initiation in my sorority was a scrapbook and it was usually cloth covered and decorated with a picture frame on the outside or the sorority letters. Mine is plain and sucks (my big sis neglected me) but I'll take a pic of it anyways so you get a general idea. They go for $25-30 in my area.
My mom went through a phase where she made wedding albums for people (just the album itself) that matched the colors/flowers/dress and they were super-popular. She didn't sell them, just gave them as gifts but she still gets requests for them to this day.
I'm, personally, not a big photo album/box fan but there are LOTS of people who are and would eat stuff like that up. I think you should go for it.
Yep, I ditto the sorority idea. Photo albums were a big thing. I'll follow the suggestion from Bex re: her particular sorority and tell you to follow-up with mine as well--Sigma Sigma Sigma in Woodstock, VA (especially if you can do purple, ivory, sailboats and/or violets--all things Tri-Sigma)!
Wow, Thanks for all the info! I guess sororities could be a really big market! Are there websites or anything I can go to for contact info on the sororities you all listed? If you don't want to post them, you can PM me. P.S. I live in Illinois, but can definatly send info and sample photos to whatever area.
www.zetataualpha.org should be mine. I'm at the gym and not really supposed to be posting so I can't check it right now.
Here is my scrapbook that my big sis gave me. I wish I had a pic of the one I bought my lil sis because it is beautiful. You probably want to stick with an album that is close to 8x10 since it is easiest to find the magnetic pages for them. This one is way too big and I haven't been able to find the refills for it in 4 years! I'm about to just get another one once I fill up the pages in this one.
Sorry I am having the worst time uploading pics today.
Wow! That is so helpful! Wouldn't it be so pretty to have an album made out of those beautiful turquoise and grey fabrics? I could also use matching ribbons and stuff. I am getting so many ideas! Thanks!
