If it's your first, I think technically you're supposed to go to the doctor so they can 'properly' diagonse you. They have a pill now that you only take for 3 days (or is it down to 1 day now?) that'll clear it right up sans messy creams.
However, all that's a big hassle and if you're sure that's what it is (have you googled? Gone to WebMD?) than I would recommend the drugstore treatment that is just a little egg-shaped capsule thing that you insert (ALOT less messy than convention creams). HTH!

Thanks Leah. This is like the 3rd one I've had in my life and it does feel like the other 2 times (the first one was diagnosed as mild) so I think that's what this is. I just didn't know anything about the capsule. Does it dissolve? Just wondering since the cream doesn't (trying to stay clean and non gross)
That pill never worked for me. I got the pill and it did nothing, so I had to go and get Monistat anyhow. Depends how bad it is, but if it's mild, I'd get the 3 day one.

You mean the Monistat3? I've used it before and it's always worked well - just be sure to use it at night before you go lay down so that when the capsule melts it won't ooze out.
God yeast infections are disgusting, aren't they? You'd think there'd be an OTC solution that wasn't so horrid. But there isn't.
I've used the capsule thing and it works well. Clears it right up. Here's a hint though: I keep the cream on hand and anytime I feel a little, um, well, like one might be coming on, I apply a bit of cream and all the symptoms go away. I use it as a preventative measure and I'm not sure if it really works or if it's all in my head but I haven't had one in ages, so that may be a sign.
However I have had a UTI recently. Ouch. What a bastard.
I have only used the cream insert method of clearing this problem up so I don't have any experience with the pills. However, I did get some of advice from my gyno when I asked her about the difference between the 7 day application creams and the others that require less days of application. She said that the creams that require only 3-5 days of application do not clear the problem as well as the 7 day creams and there is a higher chance of the problem coming back right away if you don't use the 7 day stuff. Anyhow, hope that helps...sorry you have to go through that, it is definitely a pain.
I went with the Monistat 1 and after 2 days I was feeling much better. Defintely liked it better than Monistat 3 but it wasn't perfect. Hopefully it'll be another few years before another one comes around if ever again!
