Keep getting locked out of my computer
Permalink Closed

At work, everytime I log out of my computer, I can't log back in.  It tells me my username was locked.  Also, when I close Outlook and try to open it again, it asks for my password, domain, and username (which it usually doesn't ask for at all) and I put them in and it says they are incorrect.  I then have to call my company's tech support and they unlock it for me, but it just happens again the next time I logout of my computer or close Outlook.  I keep asking for someone to come and fix the problem once and for all and they keep saying someone will come and nobody does.  Since I logout of my computer when I go to lunch or a long meeting and at the end of the day and I shut down Outlook several times a day because I get distracted when too many Windows are opened, I end up having to call them like 6 times a day to unlock my username.

Does anyone know how I can fix this myself?  I'm getting really annoyed.  I'm kind of thinking of finding out where tech support is in my building and marching my computer down there myself and telling them not to bring it back until it's fixed.

Ugh!  It turned out that people from my old department needed files from my old computer and kept trying to log-in.  If someone puts the wrong login information in 3 times, you get locked out and have to call someone to let you back in.  When my old coworkers put in the wrong password or tried to put in their own password, it would consider it three failed logins and would lock my username out.  I'm SO glad tech support finally showed up and we got this settled.

hey AJ...glad you got the issue fixed.  as an aside...so you actually log completely out when you go to lunch, etc.?  as in, go to the start menu and choose "log off?"  is your computer on a network (i'm guessing it is)?  i know that we're able to do this here, and maybe you aren't, but i can't see why not...  if i do ctrl-alt-delete there's a window that pops up and has 6 buttons, shut down, log off, probably cancel, a couple others, but specifically one that says "lock computer."  i use that everytime i leave my computer unattended but it just locks my screen.  i still have to enter my password when i come back, but i can leave all my programs and stuff running.  much better than logging off a bunch of times in one day.

Mine doesn't have the lock computer option.  I don't even know why I logout (I don't always do it).  It's not like anyone's going to look at my stuff anyway.  One of my old bosses used to be a stickler for "logging out" all the time.  I think it's just stayed with me.

oh well...

it's just a habit.  personally i don't trust the people i work with though, so for me there is a reason.  although actually, it's in our computer use policy that we have to sign, that we will lock our computers that is.
