Madonna/Malawi/Adoption/School/Outfit Mess?

Is anyone else following the Madonna/Malawi mess? She is trying to adopt a second child from Malawi and is considering opening a school for girls there.

Besides the whole strong arming her way through her adoptions, I read this morning about troubles concerning her fundraiser she had in conjunction with Gucci for her charity, Raising Malawi, that she co-founded with the Kabbalah Center.

Apparently the $3.7 million that was raised that night has gone unaccounted for, and no one is talking.

Also, the article states that "Raising Malawi teaches the Kabbalah curriculum, called Spirituality for Kids, to Malawi orphans."  This bothers me a lot, as I feel the whole point of raising money for these children or building a school isn't so much for helping them, but pushing a separate agenda, in this case Kabbalism, on children or people that don't know any better.

I'm not just targeting Kabbalah, but any religion that does this bothers me, and it makes me feel it is more of a cult than anything else.

Huffington Post skewers her for wearing a $2800 Chanel track suit to visit the poverty stricken area.

And then I remembered in Goop's last newsletter, Gwyneth's trainer Tracy Anderson will be selling "webisodes," where the proceeds will benefit Raising Malawi.  It reminds me of how Gucci invited all those fashion bloggers to come to that Malawi fundraising event, many who have thousands of readers. 

Anybody else have thoughts on all of this?

Torn on many levels -- all over the world there is a crisis of population/resources. I don't feel good about denying someone who wants to adopt a needy child that ability. On the other hand I understand the antagonism because it's easier to do if someone is rich and famous.

The school itself seems like any other missionary work done in the name of charity, or charity work done in the name of religion, if you prefer. Certainly other more popular religions do this too, so they'd all be cultlike if that's the standard. I guess it doesn't bug me as much as it could.
