iPhone vs Blackberry
Permalink Closed

I'm in the market for a new phone as my current contract is up and I can renew/get a discount on a new phone.  Right now, I've got an older model blackberry but I'm considering a iPhone.  I think all of the items I want in a phone are in/can be in both iPhone and Blackberry-

camera
email - is iPhone email like blackberry email?  or do you have to access via webmail
internet

Of course those are features that you get on any phone today.  Anyone have any personal recommendations?  I've got verizon now but am considering switching to AT&T for the iPhone.

I think both have their advantages and disadvantages. I think where the iPhone really excels is the App Store and the sheer quantity of apps out there that are built for the iPhone. On the other hand, Blackberry's going to be coming out with its own version of the App Store very soon, so it'll be cool to see where that goes. For me, I prefer the Blackberry because I like to have the actual keys to press and I think typing with my forefingers would drive me nuts.

Are you trying to access work email? If so you might want to check with your company to see if they support iPhones. I know mine does not because they don't feel it is as secure as a blackberry and also because I don't think iPhones support Lotus Notes.

If that is not a concern I'd start asking around and seeing how AT&T coverage measures up in your area. You'd hate to go through the trouble of switching to find out later that AT&T coverage isn't as good as what you had with Verizon.

I have the blackberry curve through work and I like it for the same reasons above - I like the individual keys to type with.

It depends on what you're looking for. If you are an avid emailer and email for work, I'd go with the Blackberry. I can access my home email from my iphone but its an additional $10 monthly fee to set up my work email.. which I think is redic. I use a web portal to access it instead but its not as convenient.

If you are into texting, apps, games, social networking, music go with the iphone.
