I have never used an epilator, but I was interested in seeing if any of you have. I did a little reading on MUA, but those girls do some crazy stuff in the name of beauty, so I had to ask here.
I want to know--does the pain really decrease with use? It makes me shiver to think about all those little tweezers !
I can't even wax myself because of the pain (and the mess--but salons are too $$ for right now) but I would try epilating if it works because I HATE shaving so much!

oh man, approximately 1000 years ago, when i was in junior high, i had watched one too many commercials for the "epilady" and went out and bought it. i used it once and it was unspeakably horrible. have they gotten a lot better? because if you are talking about the same thing that they had back then, i would say absolutely do not do it under any circumstances.
This one is like the super cadillac version. On make up alley they say that it hurts like crazy the first couple of times, then gets less and less painful. I just don't know if I could even bear to do it to get over the first few times.
Bumblebee, I imagine they are pretty much the same--I don't know if there is any way to make that any less painful. I do not plan to try it unless I hear some glowing raves. . .

well the old one was electric--you had to plug it into the wall. i was probably using it wrong, as i was like 14, but i ended up with bloody scrapes down the front of my shins. it was horrible.
I haven't used one since I was about 14 either but when I first started shaving my legs I bought an electric razor. It was cute and pink and for young girls so good, right? It didn't really shave very well but I suppose that didn't matter. So one day I was at my grandmothers and saw that she had an epilady. I thought it was like my electric razor so I decided to use it. OMG!!! I thought something was wrong with it or that I was having an allergic reaction to the metal. Needless to say there was much pain involved and a fair amount of yelping and screaming. An epilady IS NOT like an electric razor. For all that is holy, do not subject yourself to this kind of pain for hair removal's sake. It's just wrong. On so many fundamenetal levels...

Hey, no prob. I'm not generally about pain for beauty's sake. (Except where shoes are concerned - then all's fair.) But some women are more apt to subject themselves to intense amounts of blinding pain for the smoothness of a hairless leg. Not me. Nosirree. I'll take my Venus any old day.
I have used an emjoi for about 6 years and I am really happy with it. I think I may have a high pain tolerance, but it doesn't bother me anymore than plucking. I think they have definitely improved since the Epilady days. I like that I can use it whenever I need to and I don't have to wait for the hair to grow out really long like in waxing or make an appointment. I do have issues with ingrown hairs though
