We are having a modern looking nursery. I will post some of the items we have already but I was looking for material or baby bedding that uses some of the colors in this rug...the reds, yellow, pinks or oranges. I can have them made or buy them...not really picky either way.
storage for holding toys but nylon bins will be yellow and red.
Here is the striped rug for the nursery. The room has hardwoods.
Looking for baby bedding with maybe some of the colors in this pillow below....
I think we are going to use some Blik dot decals in dots on the walls.
I like the look of this room but I don't love this linens.

Well I like some of these fabrics from the Javis Davis fabric that ALB posted about before. She picked a different fabric but i will see if she is getting hers made there.
Hey Mikacat! I love your picks! I love the idea of a modern nursery, I am sort of doing that with mine as well. Although my bedding is not totally modern, I am going to use modern accessories like Marimekko prints stretched on canvas (I'll do 3 of them above the crib in patterns that match) and I LOVE the Blik dots! Are the dots in the second photo you got from modernseed from blik?? For your situation, I love the idea of dots and stripes (of course I'm biased, that's what I got). I got my bedding on Friday from javisdavis and I am pretty pleased with it. I don't have a mattress yet though so I can't get the full picture of what it will look like yet, but it looks cute and well made.
To go with your rug, I really like the second javisdavis link, the purple dots and yellow and white stripes are perfect. This is kind of bold, but to go with the purple and yellow fabrics I would do the olive green. I think that would tie in a lot of the colors in your rug and would be a nice different, refreshing change from traditional baby bedding. Those fabrics that are grouped together are meant to go together, it's hard to picture them all going together but the designers there are really good and seem to know what they're doing IMO. Also, have you looked at any of the dwell bedding? I'm not sure if they have any choices in the colors you need, most are lighter colors which is more common, but I'm sure you can find something that will go really nicely with the colors you're using.
Another site that has made to order bedding in cool patterns is:
animalkracker.com
I would def. check them out as well! It's very similar to javisdavis and gets good reviews as well. If I have time during the day today I'll look around some. Let me know what you think, HTHS!
to answer your questions, the photo is from the modernseed site. They have some cute ones posted but Target carries the Blik line now....how cool---I think i will need about three packs of Bliks dots altogether.
I love the idea of the stretched Marimekko prints --- I would steal it but my husband has his fine arts degree and has bought the canvases and paints to paint a trio of three paintings---about 18" by 24" or so---kind of modern but with kids doing different things like riding a bike or flying a kite or in a field of flowers. Kind of hard to explain but i think it will be neat. I will post them when the room is done. He hasn't even started it so it will be awhile.
I am glad it is well made from Javis Davis. I am leaning that way. How much was yours? Did you get an extra fitted sheet? What fabric is the sheet made out of? Is it soft? I got all my swatches from them on saturday and laid them all out together near the rug. They are much cuter in person than on the site.
Which style did you go with from the line drawings? I think I like the modern contemporary one.
Our little girls will be very close in age---How cool is that?

How great that Target has blik now! I'm going to check it out later today. So you're getting 3 packs--are you going to put them all over the walls (ie like the picture) or just on part of the walls? I am trying to decide that right now--I think I will put them all over the walls randomly, but just the top half above the chair railing, and then of course leave space for the Marimekko prints.
The paintings that your husband is doing will be fabulous! That's so cool. WE have been thinking about having my sister do an abstract portrait of us. We don't like traditional portraits AT ALL, but if it's abstract looking I think it might look good.
Re the bedding: my order was a little over $300. I had to put half down at the time I placed the order and then they charged the rest when it shipped. I got only one fitted sheet. The other two sheets I am getting elsewhere (I think 3 will be plenty). I hear these from Lands End are really soft and great quality:
Okay I had to continue in a different post b/c it did something weird after I posted that link. Anyway, I am hoping that they might have some cuter colors later, but I hear great things about them. The other crib sheet I am getting that is highly recommended is I think from PBK (I wrote it down at home, don't have my list here). I will just go with something in a solid color that matches the rest of the bedding. So I actually ended up ordering 1 crib sheet, 1 bumper, 1 crib skirt and 1 throw pillow (for my rocking chair, which is a hand me down/antique that I am recovering with the candy stripe fabric--but I have to order that later when I know the dimensions).
I got the contemporary tailored set (for the pillow as well), b/c I'm not a fan of ruffles. I would get that if I were you. The bumper on the contemporary set is SO cute with all the bows, etc.
The sheets are 100% cotton, not sure the thread count. I asked this and she didn't know and actually none of the sheets or bedding for babies on any other site listed thread count, I'm not sure why.
I think the sheets are soft, but I was so preoccupied when they came in b/c we had to leave that I didn't really look at them closely. The package is only halfway open, but I'll feel the sheets tonight and let you know what I think. We will have to wash them before the baby gets here so they might soften up after that.
That's all I can think of for now. Let me know what you decide or if you have any more questions. I love all of your ideas--it sounds like we have similar tastes. I'm excited that our daughters will be the same age as well--it will be nice exchange pictures and to bounce ideas off of each other about motherhood, etc.!
Oh have you heard of the book "Baby Bargains"? It rates all of the baby products out there by quality, price, etc. It is fabulous and I've been relying on it very heavily throughout this process. It is a must-have in my opinion. Here's the link:
yes--the dots on the wall are the "blik" dots. Aren't they great? I am doing them in my nursery as well (stealing mikacat's idea). I love the look of those dots verses a cartooney border or theme.
i saw these warhol prints in the Moma catalogue last night.
Warhol: Daisy Framed Prints, Blue and Red High-quality reproductions of Andy Warhol’s "Daisy" series c. 1982. Mounted and laminated, then framed in hand-stained black wood. Wired for hanging, each has a 2" deep flat edge that also allows them to stand on a shelf or mantel. Cannot be gift-wrapped.
Size: 14.25" sq.
$45.00 $40.50
and the one I wanted to post for you- i can't find online--It was in the months Metropolitan Home April 2005 on page 40.
It is a do it by the numbers. Nostalgic for those 50s paint by number sets? they have been reinvented by British company call Art by Numbers which offers such sophisticatd graphics as Rose red. in two side 24 inches square or 6 inches square. (might be worth checking out)
artbynumbers.co.uk
but nothing was really on the site yet.

I've thought these were super cute for a long time - you can get them from the Oopsy Daisy boutique at Totshop.com and obv. you can customize the names.
