Ok...so I am in my mid twenties and have a 2 year old son. Either of those strike you as a reason that I 'should not' shop at Hollister? Didn't think so!
Well first things first...I think all the moms with strollers, people in wheelchairs and anyone overweight needs to sue them! You just can't get into the store or through the aisles! I tried...once...with my son, and then gave up.
So this week finally I went over during my lunch break with a coworker.
Second question...why at 11 am is the store overrun by teenyboppers? Shouldn't they be in school???
Anyhow, we did find some cute stuff and some of it was on sale!
Not until we got back to the office did we realize they had wrung up the sale stuff wrong. Grrrr! So after work we headed back into the fray. And the salesman (ok, more like sales boy...16 tops) was SO rude! First he made this fuss about why we wanted to return things or exchange them and then he muttered the whole time he was doing it!
Argh! Why is it illegal to smack rude people...grrrrr....
I don't have strollers (I mean, kids), but the only time I bought something there I got there by bike, so I had a backpack on me. Nothing huge, an average sized backpack, but it was difficoult to walk around without pulling the shirts out of their hangers with the backpack.
Besides, I was 29 (it was last year), and the kids were looking at me like "why is this mom trying to buy something for daughter without having her here?". Salespeople opened thei r eyes wide when I asked to try something on (yeah, it's for ME!). It was unconfortable, may be it's just me, but it wasn't a nice eprerience. And it's a shame, b/c the 2 things I got there I still use, I really like them!
i can't stand A&F or Hollister, but they are opening one of the new Ruehl stores at our mall (we get all the new stuff- i love living in columbus!) and i am interested to see how the staff there treat us since it is geared towards our age group...
will they still be snobby? or will they actually help us when we need it??

Same here. The one time I went into Hollister, the sales people didn't even greet me or acknowledge my presence. Doesn't bother me though. If I don't get good CS, they don't get my money.
I outright refuse to go into Hollister. Shortly after the one at the MOA opened, a friend and I were up there and were curious about what the store was (due to their lack of the name on the outside), so we went in. It was CRAWLING with 13-14 year olds, an age group that makes me want to scream (I've had to deal with too many of them at work, and they're never being good). My friend and I just looked at each other, said "Hell no" and left.
The store just screams "Teenybopper" and that is just not my thing. I'm sure there are good products from them, but the store itself just makes me not want to go in because of their target age group (I'm 26)
I acuatlly like the lack of customer service at A&F and Hollister. I don't go there very often, but A&F jeans fit me perfectly. Every once in a while I will go into the stores.
I like the summer beachy theme Hollister has going on, but everything seems to be sooooo small. I wear a smaller , but I don't like tight clothes.

My sister is an assistant manager at Hollister. She said when she went through training, they tell you to be "aloof" to the customers. They didn't really say why, but since the store is geared toward HS students, I think it has to do with the way they're perceived by their customers. The SAs are like "the cool kids."
Anyway, I thought it was interesting that they actually teach you to act that way.

My sister's boyfriend works at Abercrombie and that was basiclly what they said to him. He almost got the feeling that you are not suppose to even be nice to customers either- you don't spit in peoples faces or anything- but defintley don't be nice.

weird- wonder if it will be the same with Ruehl since it is geared towards 25-30 age group. i guess i'll have to wait and find out once they open it. it looks like it is almost finished...
Wow! Well I will HAVE to check that out...I work literally right next to Easton...at the Germain Lexus dealership...so you all KNOW where I spend my lunch hours!

Ugh! That just digusts me. I can't believe some companies have that mindset. I'm so glad I have no desire to shop there. I might not of cared so much when I was 15 or so, but now I won't set foot in a store where the employees treat you as a lesser person. Especially if they're paid specifically to treat you like that. I'm sure as an Asst. Manager, Halleybird's sister has to do a little more butt kissing every once in a while!!

how DO you have any money?????
if i worked that close i would never have a paycheck!!!
1. I bought a really cute navy beater with sequins on the straps for about $20 (yes, it was overpriced, but it was cute!). I handwash it one time VERY carefully and lay it out to dry. The next time I go to wear it I noticed a small hole on the side. I know that I didn't put the hole in it and I only wore it once! Their clothes are very overpriced for the cheap materials and manufacturing.
2. Their clothes are SOOOO tiny! I wear an XS or S, but I have to buy a large in their tops. I don't think I know a single person over the age of ten who could wear an XS in Hollister.
3. I feel so scared to go into Hollister...its so dark and I feel intimidated by the salespeople. Like I'm not cool enough to go in. I'm a baby.

ew I hate the aloof sales people. Especially when you want to get into the fitting room and no one is to be found. That especially makes my blood boil.
Maybe I'm weird but I love going into a store and not being harassed by the sales people. I don't like Hollister though since I'm a D and can't fit into their tops. Plus their dressing room is just an open room without any dividers. I don't want a teeny-bopper looking at me!
Maybe it's just the one Hollister I have been to, but it's too dark in there, as well as being too crowded. And I assume it's so dark so you can't see that you are being overcharged for what they sell. LOL
