What items do you own that you've been suprised have become go-to items? For me it was a J Crew zebra striped cardigan that I wore a ton last spring/summer. I was returning a Christmas gift and since everything in the store was on sale I grabbed it from the sale table on my way to the register. Animal print is totally not something I'd ever thought was "me" (I'm pretty preppy, definitely not edgy) but I really enjoyed this with so many things - a plain black dress, bright green cami and khakis. I also got a super cheap black belt with skull and crossbones on it that I wear a suprising amount.
I thought it might be fun to glean some fashion inspiration for things that people found suprisingly wearable!

I bought a long black cardigan on super sale at Barneys that had an umbrella print at the neck and sleeves. I wasn't sure if I liked how it looked on me but I"m sooo glad I bought it because I wear it about 3 times a week. It always cheers me up. I like fun sweaters in the dead of winter.
I wear my lace up Vans all the time. I guess that's not THAT surprising but I didn't think I'd wear them so often.
I bought a Foley and corinna mid city bag in brown and I don't think I've changed it in 3 years. Surprising since I get sick of things but it's well designed and goes with almost everything.
I bought little silver shark teeth earrings and I never take them out. They also go with everything somehow.
Last summer I got a slouchy light pink tank top and wore the hell out of it. I am not a pink person but I liked that the cut was a bit edgy, yet the color was girly.
French Connection asymmetrically buttoned 3/4 sleeve tunic cardigan in black - also an exchange. It sounds like there's a lot going on with it, but it's actually really tailored and versatile.
Abstract zebra print wrap dress - I seriously would wear it once a week but it's too memorable.
A gray jersey two-in-one type of top that looks like a cami under a cowlneck tunic. It was a Goodwill find and I lurves it.
Before starting the new job, I bought 2 dresses at Sandro ferrone. One of them is a block colored dress, in the tones of violet, purple and black. It's shortish, and very 60s. I am amazed how many tomes I have worn it: to work (on my first day!), to a jazz concert, for new years day, to go out at night. It was really worth the money.
Silver CK flats. They're kind of shockingly shiny, but I ended up wearing them with everything. The silver sort of ends up being neutral, but they still add pizzaz to an outfit.
I also got a houndstooth scarf for Christmas that was....fine....but I didn't think I'd wear it much. I ended up loving it and I wear it at least every other day. So warm, but again, it adds something interesting to otherwise boring outfits.
I love this question! Lately my go to item has been a pair of flat grey Target boots that get compliments whenever I wear them. I had been wanting a pair of grey boots for a while. They basicly go with everything.
I also love a very simple coin chocker necklace I bought on Etsy last year. I wear it at least once or twice a week. I'm sorry for such a large picture. Not sure how to make it smaller?
I am constantly wearing my silver and my gold target ballet flats. They make walking to my office building so much easier and quicker than heels. They are also a nice substitute to flip flops when it is cold here.
I ran across an Anthro sweater gold mine at my Rugged Wearhouse in early fall. Among others, I picked up this sweater:
In the color shown and in Oatmeal. I wear the oatmeal one constantly and I think every woman I work with has complimented it. They're probably tired of seeing it!
Also, these boots:
Sorry the pic is huge. I'm obsessed with them--so comfy!

I have this swweater to, but I have so much trouble styling it! what do you wear it with?. I love how comfy it is...
I have a grey, boiled wool, double breasted, short bell sleeved jacket. I wear that a ton.
I guess my other unexpected go-to is not something that belongs to me -- it's my husband's turtleneck sweaters (much to his dismay...) They're so thick and warm. I recently bought myself a men's v-neck wool sweater for $10 at TJ's so I wouldn't wear his sweaters so much. working from home, my go-to outfit has become a men's wool sweater, skinny jeans, uggs, and a pashmina as a scarf. I tend to dress up whenever I go out because I wear that uniform so much...

This might not be unexpected, but I wear men's small hanes beater tanks under pretty much everything. I stole my FIs that he never wore to begin with, but wear them so often I had to buy my own!

ha, same. I also buy men's hanes white t-shirts and wear them everywhere. It's amazing how much cheaper men's beaters and t's are.

I do too. I think I learned that trick here at ST!
My unexpected go-to is a black cardigan with small white polka dots from F21. It was an impulse buy that I didn't try on. It was only $10 and I was on my way to the register when I bought it... it's not even my normal size. I wear it all the time because it goes with everything. I can dress it up and dress it down. It's held up suprisingly well, and I'm very impressed with the quality. It's perfect!
Mine is a super soft grey sleeveless tee by Love by Yaya. I got it on sale and wear it so often I'm already trying to find a back up for when it gets too trashed
My grey alpaca wool cardigan from J Crew. I could wear it everyday.
For spring/summer I have a pale pink cardigan with little rosebuds from ON. I got it for about $10 about 4 years ago and I will wear it until it is threadbare.
