I am not sure if I posted this or not, but we bought a new house in Dec. We are doing a total remodel job (this was not expected), and now I need to decide how to decorate my bedroom. Any ideas? I am horrible at decorating and visualizing things, so any pics that you could post of your fav. bedroom would be great!!!!

I do not have a single gene from an interior decorator so I'm pretty dull and boring. My walls are pretty sparse but I love my duvet. I went with a really dark sapphire blue duvet with a small white-ish print on it from C&B 2 years ago and it is just so pretty and calming. If I can get my room picked up a little tomorrow I'll take a picture.

I like the cottage style (ex: cottage living). I really don't like modern, but I do like un-cluttered. I like stuff that looks worn and aged. Things that look comfy. Just some background info, our house was built in 1949, it is a 2/1 cottage. We recently redid the bathroom, very simple, black and white hetogon floor tile, white bathtub, white and black tile in the shower, pedestal sink and wainscotting on the walls. I almost forgot, the walls we painted a light purple/tan color. It was supposed to be a light purple but it turned out to be a tanish/purple.

Your bathroom sounds almost exactly like our main bath downstairs - wish I had a picture to prove it to ya!

What are the floors like? I assume they are hardwood given the age of the house (which sounds fabulous). I like to start with a rug because I find it's easier to fall in love with an area rug and then pick out colors and other elements that go with it, versus deciding on paint, bedding, etc. - then trying to find a rug that works with all that later!

Great rugs give me a decor high.

You can look at dressing and accessorizing a room like you'd dress/accessorize yourself...what will you use as basic "seasonless" pieces, what kind of neutrals, prints, colors, fabrics, metal tones ("jewelry") will you add in? If your bedroom was an outfit, one you'd wear every day, what would it be like?

To keep with a vintage feel, I'd look for an antique(ish) patterned rug on eBay or maybe Overstock, then a unique bed/headboard (maybe brass or nickel), then a matched set of nightstands you can paint a fun color that works with the rug (try Craigslist), an antique armoire (not hard to find) or dresser and maybe splurge on an upholstered accent chair or ottoman if you have the space. Then pick a wall color out of the rug and a solid-colored comforter/bedding. Add the bling in lamps, framed pictures, throw pillows, curtains.

Also, there are thousands of fabulous, tacky, interesting, creepy, and/or beautiful rooms in Polyvore if you ever browse the sets people have made. I was trying to make a bunch of colors work together for my living room but I ended up making a bedroom instead...maybe it helps you.

There are hundreds of inspiration photos of bedrooms on HGTV.com - designer's portfolio or something like that.  you can search by style (traditional, modern, contemporary, country) and room and designer.

I think it would help if you gave a general idea of your style and favorite colors.  A bedroom is personal and should reflect you as a person.

I have no idea. I think that is the problem. I love the cottage stye but I love the idea of rich color walls and something dramatic. My husband wants to stay pretty neutral and calming. He wants to paint the room a light coffee color. So I am trying to see what I can do with that. I have been looking at pictures online for inspiration but nothing has really "wowed" be yet.

Light coffee (mocha) is good with pinks, burgundies and black, if that helps.

Hi!
COngrats on the new house!
Do you have a bedding already? ANything in mind? White/off white would probably work, with interesting textures, like "from grandma's trunk"... Look in Anthropologie for those & coverlet.
Do you have a rug? Window treatments or any ide, likes/dislikes in mind? What about furniture? Is there a wood floor?
Anyway, if it's cottage, i thought of pale colors ( pale sea foam, dirty yellow, medium teal) but if you'd like drama, so maybe a rich navy with light bedding, medium tones rug ( blues/greys/tans/camel/lavenders/turqoise)...
I'd probably pick a bed & then nighstands that work with it but not a set. Maybe a few items in  white wood ( shelves).
What about lighting?
Also check www.avaliving.com  you can also check pics of rooms by style & color for inspiration.

I like Mark Ruffalo's house- found it on Dominomag.com.  The walls are mainly white and I think its a good blend of antique/modern, warm/sparse, and masculine/feminine.

I came across this site, and thought there were some good inspiration pics http://thesteampunkhome.blogspot.com/

isn't this the coolest bathroom?

I also like the look of white against mocha (I know this is taupe, but the idea is the same) -- there was an example in the house beautiful link as well:

D that bathroom is awesome. I only wish...

That last bedroom I could see both my husband and I agreeing on. It is simple and classic. I guess I just found out what our joint style is.
