I've been growing my hair out for about a year, and I LOVE it. The only thing is, the more hair I have, the more work it is! Right now I wash my hair about every other day, and sometimes stretch it to three if I wear a bun or something on the third day. I heard someone say the other day that she only washes her hair once a week, and even then she doesn't use shampoo, only conditioner. I was blown away!

My hair is the same way as leah's. Fine and straight. I don't really have a choice to not wash it. I tried years ago to "train" it and I failed miserably.
It depends. I usually wash it every other day, maybe going a day longer if I don't plan on going out. Sometimes I decide it feels too gross like this morning and washed my hair real quick before I had to go to school.
Mine is fine and straight too, and it's only now that it's really quite short that I can get away with not washing it everyday. That's only because it's finally not laying flat on my head anymore, so it gets less weighed down from the oils.
When my hair was really long, I'd wash it daily but only shampoo the roots and then condition everything. At least then I felt like I wasn't a greaseball, and it didn't dry out my ends so much.

I try not to wash it every day (a water rinse and conditioner for no-wash days) but I tend to wash the roots only and use conditioner when I do wash it. I also rarely brush my hair anymore - it's a finger combing - I've been letting my hair dry and curl naturally lately (I kind of have some hippy hair going right now...) it has been really shiny lately...

I wash about every other day or every third day even though I have very fine hair. Some people are able to go alot longer, particularly if they have curly hair which tends to need moisture.
I recently read an interesting article about going a while without washing hair to "train it" - lots of women reported they had MORE volume, more waves, didn't need styling products, etc while others say it was the lowest their self-esteem has ever been.
I have fine, long straight hair and I wash every second day. Becuase its so dry here, if I wash every day my hair is fried and I get horrible split ends. Day 2 I usually wear a bun or pony tail.
I used to wash every day but when i had it cut short and needed to blow-dry/flat iron every day I moved to every other. It took some getting used to but now it's fine. The only issue I have is that when my color's growing out (I have highlights) it tends to get oilier. Dry shampoo helps but it's definitely not perfect!

I have long wavy hair, which I usually wash every day because after being slept on it's a total mess and I can't even help it with a curling iron. When I blow it straight I go three days, but day three is definitely ponytail day.
I have fine, thin hair and should wash it every day. It's very oily. However, I know that it's not good to wash it every day so I try to do every other. I end up hating my hair on the off days though.

This is gross, but I tend to sweat at night, add that to the product I use and the fact that my hair is fine and thin... all this leads to washing everyday.
BTW, anyone remember the hair experiment from a few years back? I didn't participate, but I think some did with good results. I wonder if any of those post are still on here... Maybe an advance search is in order :)
Interesting article. I know a few women who have gone "no poo" and I confess their hair looks great for what it is. They rinse with salt water (technically ocean water) once a week or so. I gather it does take a long time to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but I couldn't fathom going six to eight weeks or whatever without allowing anyone to see me while it recovers from the product abuse.
Me: every other day, hate it on the off days, sometimes go a third day if I don't have anywhere to be.
I have fine, thick hair, which is slightly weird but whatever. I wash mine every few days (2-3/week depending on gym time). I started doing this a few years ago when I colored/highlighted regularly. I have fairly long hair, so damage is super easy to come by. Washing less keeps my hair healthy and makes my color last longer.
I use powder on 3rd and 4th days of non-wash. I also put a light biolage curl enhancer (does nothing stylistically) on everything except the crown to make my hair smell nice and freshly washed (my little secret).
Here's a link to the hair experiment of 2005 if anyone cares to read :) Perhaps some good info pretaining to this topic: http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=44784&p=3&topicID=2087049
I do every other day, on weekends I dont usually wash it. I honestly dont feel I need to wash my hair more than a few times a week , it is really thick and styles better on day 2 and 3.
Usually, I wash every other day. But, with the trouble I'm (still) having with my scalp, I need to wash every day.
I tried a scalp treatment using the essential oils that I have been playing around with. I mixed up about an ounce of jojoba and olive oils and added 2 drops lavender EO, 2 drops rosemary EO, and 2 drops of geranium EO. The recipe called for sandalwood, but I grabbed the wrong bottle when I made it up. I massage into my scalp and then hop in the shower and wash with Head & Shoulders (what I'm relegated to right now). My hair is so soft and shiny! Not greasy at all. The oils smell so good.
I do this at night, finger style my hair, and go to sleep. All i have to do in the morning is curl my ends a little!
