What do you ladies think of guys wearing a t-shirt under a sweater, where the t-shirt actually shows?  I think this look is outdated and makes a guy look like he is just lazy or trying to look fashionable but failing.  My BF likes this look.  I don't want to be too critical because he has started trying different looks out all by himself, which I am happy about, and he usually comes up with good ideas, but I just cannot get behind this one.  Obviously, he wears what he wants, but I needed to voice my opnion.  Am I alone in thinking this way? 

Ok, here is another question now:  What about a T-shirt underneath a button-down collar shirt?  He normally wears an undershirt that is hidden but the other day he tried to wear a T-shirt under one of his more casual collar shirts.  I said no, and he even agreed he didn't care for it too much.  This look reminds me of college frat boys and I feel that even if he is aiming for a casual look, this is just too casual for him.

I think it's fine for casual wear, and that the alternative bare clavicle looks unfinished.

Sorry, I agree with Elle.  As long as the shirt is clean and crisp, not just some old ratty t-shirt, then I think it's fine.  But I agree, this is for a more casual look.  To dress it up a button down with the collar out is better under a sweater.

I think I actually might need more information.

Is the sweater a v-neck or (crap...what's the word?) round-collar?
Is the t-shirt an actual t-shirt like a Hanes Underwear type or are we talking something with an actual collar like a polo?

Here's my take: v-necks are only appropriate on guys with a button-down collar shirt. Sweaters with round-collars are fine to wear with a (non-ripped! non-faded) t-shirt.

Wow, that was super complicated but I'm gonna have to go with the rest of the girls in that it's usually a fine look, in certain situations. However, if he's wearing a v-neck with some nasty t-shirt he picked up off the floor, that's a big No!

I have to agree with everyone else. I can't say it's my favorite look (I'd prefer a collared shirt underneath), but I think that having some fabric there is way better than a lot of bare man neck or worse, chest hair peeking out (I actually like a hairy chest, but not coming out of the shirt!).

I think it's important that it look purposeful, and not just look like his ratty old Hanes undershirt is accidentally peeking out. So I'd rather a guy be wearing a color other than white if he does it.

I agree, white looks too much like an undershirt, color is better!!

I'm fine with this look for casual wear. A collared shirt would be too preppy for my taste.

Ttara123, the photos you posted are exactly what I am talking about. I guess I am in the minority, but I still stand by my opinion. At least now I know he is not going and having everyone think he can't dress himself.

I was hoping to have some backup but thanks for your opinions!

A long-sleeved dress shirt or the equivalent: I like a clean white tee underneath. It's kind of an 'I just came from the office and took off my tie and now I'm ready to party, responsibly and respectfully, of course' look.

I actually wish my DH would do this but he only wears v-neck tees under his nicer shirts because he agrees with you that a t-shirt peeking out looks lame and sloppy. But I'd rather see a t-shirt than chest skin, frankly.

NOT with a casual shirt or a short-sleeved shirt unless they're kind of edgy/rockabilly and they know how to do it. (White crewneck under funky vintage bowling shirt, e.g.)

I have to dig back almost 20 years to conjure up any images of what college frat boys wear besides Greek letter sweatshirts, so I may have a different perspective.
