I just got back from the movie... having read the short story I am astounded by the differences.  I think I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't read the book, because really.. it wasn't based on the novel at all. 

Anyone see it?

Yes, I've seen it and I agree with you that it is NOTHING like the short story (unfortunately!). I thought it was really long and slow. They should have done a lot of editing.

I haven't read the story but I agree that the movie was a bit slow. I liked the effects and I loved Cate Blanchetts hair and wardrobe, especially the yellow swing coat.
I thought the movie was pretty good, I always like Brad Pitt.
