I read somewhere (atcually it was Cooking LIght, go figure) that they are made by the same company so the formulations are pretty much the same. Does anyone know if this is actually true? Has anyone used L'Oreal products and can give a review compairing it to Lancome? I'm particularily interested in the mascara. Thanks.
yes, they are owned by the same company, which owns Maybelline too. I think L'Oreal is pretty good, I love their mascara (I have lash architecture, or smtg like that) and lipsticks.
One I just discovered: Estee Lauder owns Jane. Go figure!

i think you hit them all! i used to work for Lauder and I LOVED having access to their company store... and now i hate to pay retail at their lines because of it!
I use L'Oreal mascara, and have tried many, many dept. store brands that I have never liked as well. I use Lash Out...It was recommended by Jennifer Aniston on Oprah.
I also swear that there is no difference between the L'Oreal glosses and Juicy Tubes...except for the price, of course!
If I'm not mistaken I think Lauder also owns Prescriptives.
I have tried both Juicy Tubes and L'Oreal ColourJuice and I swear that they are basically the same. I think Juicy Tubes might be slightly stickier but the difference between the two is negligable in my opinion.

Just because the companies have the same ownership doesn't really speak to the quality of the product. Think about Old Navy, Banana Republic, and the Gap. I personally think that Lancome Flextencils mascara is way better than anything from a drugstore.
I think a lot of their stuff is similar. And honestly, real makeup pros will tell you that the difference between cheap stuff and higher-end is usually just packaging and range/depth of shades, not quality per se. And some of their stuff is exactly the same (like trixie said, color juice=juicy tubes).
That said, I never could wear loreal foundations or powder (they didn't ever come light enough for me), but Lancome was always fine. Plus Lancome gives those cool gifts. (Now I don't wear either, since they test on animals )

Cosmair, the company that owns Lancome and L'Oreal Paris, doesn't test on animals. They had labs near my college and alot of kids who were chemistry majors worked there. They don't test on animals but do use products from animals like urea and lanolin.
Cosmair also acquired Shu Uemura and has licensing rights to Armani fragrances.
Other companies that Estee Lauder owns are Jo Malone, Bumble and Bumble, Kate Spade Beauty, Rodan & Fields, and my personal favorite.... Trump Fragrances!
