OK, so I ordered a shawl from smartbargains about 6 weeks ago that was scheduled to be delivered Feb. 9. It never came, smartbargains couldn't find it, filed a claim, etc.
So today it shows up. I no longer need it, since it was for a wedding that has now been over for 2 weeks. I don't think it's fair for me to pay return shipping (I would have kept it if it had arrived on time). Can I just mark "refused" on the package (haven't opened it), or will that ruin my chances of returning the item?

who was the carrier? you should probably file the complaint with them and see if they will reimburse you the return shipping cost since it's their fault.
i would just call the 800 number and tell them the honest truth. i would think that your reason (item arrived too late) would be enough to justify them sending you a free return label.
